Primary objective

Assist the Visitor Experience Coordinator in implementing and presenting tours, experiences and programs showcasing the

relationship between plants, animals and people of Central Australia. Train and provide the supervision of guides to ensure a high

level of visitor satisfaction and cultural interpretation.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Assist with day-to-day operations and supervision of the guide team.

2. Develop and deliver workshops, activities, presentations and tours for specialist groups, students and tourists.

3. Guiding duties as required.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively provide training and supervision.

2. Demonstrated ability to work with limited direction and supervision, to set appropriate priorities and to develop and

implement programs and daily work plans.

3. An ability to interact effectively with people of diverse cultures.

4. High level knowledge of Central Australian Aboriginal worldviews and a proven ability to interpret the landscape with

integrity.

5. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with individual visitors and groups to provide appropriate information about

the culture, flora, fauna and habitats of Central Australia.

6. Ability to carry out research and develop presentations on the people, flora, fauna and habitats of Central Australia.

7. Ability to work evenings, weekends and public holidays on a roster system at the Alice Springs Desert Park.

8. Current or ability to obtain ‘C’ class NT Driver’s Licence, Senior First Aid Certificate and Working with Children (Ochre Card).

Desirable

1. A relevant qualification awarded by an Australian institution, or equivalent or relevant experience in a field of technical work

closely related to the duties of the vacancy.

2. Understanding of and commitment to the roles and functions of the Alice Springs Desert Park.

This position involves shift work over a seven-day roster working in extreme environmental conditions of Central Australia.
