Salary will be accordance with NSW Health State Awards for the advertised classification/s. These awards are available at http://www.health.nsw.gov.au/careers/conditions/pages/default.aspx.
A TALENT POOL MAY BE CREATED FOR FUTURE ROLES AND WILL REMAIN VALID FOR 18 MONTHS.
What you'll be doing
The Assertive Suicide Prevention Outreach Service (SPOT) is part of the Towards Zero Suicides Initiative and aims to reduce deaths by suicide and suicide attempts by providing rapid, appropriate and compassionate support to people at risk of suicide in the community. This contemporary service is staffed by peer workers with lived experience of suicide and clinicians who provide recovery-oriented and trauma-informed care as a multidisciplinary team. The service will run 7 days a week on a roster including after hours, weekends and public holidays.
The Peer Worker (SPOT) will be required to contribute to the establishment and maintenance of a quality service, in cooperation and collaboration with other relevant services and agencies. The Peer Worker will be required to work after hours and on weekends.
- Understanding of and commitment to consumer led recovery principles with the ability to utilise personal lived and living experience to constructively support others with their own mental health journey.
- Ability to utilise the lived experience of suicide to support others with their own mental health recovery journey, whilst drawing on effective strategies to maintain wellness.
- Demonstrated ability to advocate for an individual and at a systems level to improve access to quality mental health services for consumers.
- Completion of or willingness to undertake Certificate IV Peer Work – Mental Health qualification
- Demonstrated sound written and verbal communication skills, and computer literacy with the ability to use relevant software programs (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Good organisational and planning skills to organise one's own daily work
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team and actively contribute to the further development of MNCLHD Peer Services and broader Peer Workforce
- Hold a current Driver’s License valid within Australia and ability to travel and work across different locations as required.
