The Australian National Maritime Museum is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Technology Experience Officer to join our Technology team in this full-time, ongoing APS Level 6 position.

The Technology Experience Officer is an integral member of the Technology Team, responsible for overseeing all audiovisual (AV) and technological aspects of exhibitions, marketing, and venue spaces. This role encompasses the management of AV equipment installation, maintenance, and operation, ensuring the delivery of high-quality presentations and enriching experiences for both exhibitors and attendees.


Additionally, the officer plays a key role in driving innovation by exploring and integrating cutting-edge technologies that enhance engagement and elevate the overall exhibition experience.


High level overview of accountabilities:


Under limited direction, this position is responsible for delivering the following functions:


  • Provide assistance via phone, email, remote support, and a ticket management system to address service requests and incidents promptly.
  • Ensure optimal functionality of all technology and AV equipment, coordinating with suppliers as needed for exhibitions, ad hoc events, educational programs, and venue spaces.
  • Conduct regular health checks on AV equipment to proactively identify and address potential issues.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders during the planning phase, offering expert consultation on technology needs, including selection, budgeting, implementation, and documentation aligned with museum wide projects.
  • Manage the lifecycle of AV equipment, ensuring efficient budget allocation for maintenance, upgrades, and replacements.
  • Train staff and exhibitors on using AV equipment and technology effectively, fostering confidence and competence in its operation.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive records and dashboards of all AV equipment assets, including maintenance schedules, warranties, and technical specifications for exhibitions, marketing and venue spaces.
  • Drive innovation by researching and developing new technologies that enhance AV capabilities and improve user experiences in collaboration with key stakeholders.
  • Work closely with the Technology team and undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by the Head of Technology or Technology Services Manager.
Selection Criteria:

Essential

  • Experience with Service Desk support.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team with a customer service focus, prioritise tasks and proactively seek improvement.
  • Experience with commercial audio visual systems, theatre systems, digital signage and other audio visual delivery platforms and technology.
  • Hands-on experience with AV setup, operation, and troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency in using AV software and tools for editing, presentation, and live event production.
  • Independent problem-solving skills with ability resolve problems in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Excellent communication and verbal skills to deal with project stakeholders.
  • Proactive and able to work effectively unsupervised and within a team environment.
  • Highly developed written skills.
  • Ability to prioritise and time management tasks where accordingly to ensure operational outcomes.
  • Ability to self-manage and accountable for issues under pressure as well as being flexible with responsibilities, duties and hours.
  • Availability and flexibility to travel interstate and overseas to assist exhibition deployment and decommissioning as required and/or to provide support after hours.
  • Ability to work weekends.
Desirable
  • Understanding of how a museum operates.
  • Recognised tertiary qualifications in Technology is essential.
  • Experience in commercial audio visual and digital delivery systems.
  • SFIA Customer service support: Level 5.
  • Project Management fundamentals.

Selection for this position will be made on the basis of relative merit which will be assessed against each item of the selection criteria. Psychometric tests may be used as the initial short-listing test or later in the selection process. Some tests are very short while others may take one or more hours.
