The Institute of Logic and Computation in the research unit of Theory and Logic at TU Wien, is offering a position as student staff in research (Stud MA) for 20 hours/week. The position is expected to start in September/October 2024. This position is expected to be limited to 12 months, and no longer than up until completion of a master's degree.

Tasks:

Support in the critically assessing the Austrian labor market service (AMS) on their job consultation platform, the AMS Berufsinfomat which uses LLM-based services.
Support in conducting a systematic critical literature review of existing algorithmic auditing approaches.
Participating in interviewing stakeholders involved in developing and maintaining that system for a human centered understanding of the mental models guiding such systems.
Contributing to the development of principle-based recommendations to ethically auditing LLM-based services in general.

The project is a collaboration between the Theory and Logic Group and the Human Computer Interaction Group at TU Wien, and the company implementing and maintaining the service for the AMS, goodguys gmbh.

Your profile:

Enrolled in a relevant master's program (Logic and Computation, Human-centered computing, Visual Computing, Medical Informatics, or others related to Computer Science).
Familiarity with LLMs, critical thinking, fairness and bias in machine learning (all are prerequisites).
Strong affinity with AI Ethics is recommended but prior experience is not required.
Language: English work proficiency.

Entry level salary is determined by the pay grade C of the Austrian collective agreement for university staff. This is a minimum of currently EUR 1,299.60/month gross, 14 times/year for 20 hours/week.
