Your role
As a leading international food group we focus in our B2B2C operations to serve our customers with high services, reliability and competitive total cost to serve. We differentiate on the market through superior product quality and innovations. In this context we invest in CAPEX projects, allocating annually 5% of our turnover. While local plant teams handle recurring plant CAPEX, major strategic projects are managed by the Group Engineering Team.
As Group Engineering Manager, you will lead CAPEX strategy execution, enforce word class engineering standards, drive technological innovation and lead and develop a team of 18 FTE’s.

Your key responsibilities:
Develop and execute an engineering/CAPEX strategy for the company

Align the CAPEX investments in both yearly budget and 5-year strategic plan with the operations directors and other internal stakeholders (HSE, Quality, Engineering, Marketing…);
Plan the execution resources: plan the activity load of the Group Engineering Team, align the supplier strategy & sourcing plan with CAPEX procurement;

Drive towards world class Engineering standards:

Enforce the application of existing Engineering Standards and define, roll-out new standards;
Enforce the application of Early Equipment Management : stage gate process organizing the project lifecycle in order to steer in a proactive way and to build upfront alignment through early involvement of project stakeholders;

Lead the development and implementation of new technological capabilities

Be at the forefront of technology innovation in collaboration with R&D and equipment suppliers: you will frequently lead projects in their early concept & design phase before they go into development via a team member designated in your team;
Innovation: watch actively for new technological developments supporting our business needs, set-up a collection of technological insights and foster technological watch in collaboration with the Science & Technology Experts of the R&D team and/or external partners;
Sustainable development: identify and bring to reality the technological solutions that support the achievement of Group Sustainability targets. Achieving SBTI targets requires key technological leaps.

Lead and mentor a team of Engineers

Enroll the team members towards a vision and masterplan for the engineering team, create adherence and set strategic directions clear for the team;
Provide technical leadership to all engineering and CAPEX projects areas;
Coach your team in line with our group leadership model, enhance behaviors in line with our corporate values;
Develop the team’s cross-functional effectiveness: foster relationships with internal stakeholders;
Foster relationships with external stakeholders: maintain high level relationships with key Original Equipment Manufacturers and project service providers;
Active talent development through learning, career & succession planning, specifically developing team diversity, and cross-functional talent development.

Are you the one we’re looking for?

You hold a Master’s Degree in Engineering. Experience of min 10 years in project engineering and project management as a Lead, preferably in consumer goods business (or similar activities with short project lifecycle and connected to consumer consumption)
You are analytical, whilst developing strong strategic beliefs. Strong problem-solving skills and excellent project management skills .
You enjoy travelling (>50%), nationally and abroad. The role is primarily based in Izegem (Belgium), where most the team sits, but you go to the place where the value is created : at supplier’s places, in the locations where projects are implemented.
You have excellent communication, presentation and convincing skills in English. Fluency in Dutch or French is a plus. You have gained an international mindset and are at ease to work with partners across Europe, or internationally.
You appreciate the level of autonomy required to drive a sizeable operation and the connections to the network of internal and external stakeholders both in Europe and internationally.
