Internship ESG - ESG Reporting requirements for SMEs

You will get the opportunity to work on an internal project and an intern or group of interns who are looking for a (thesis) project:

How can BDO help SMEs in the value chain of large companies to effectively prepare for upcoming ESG reporting requirements, especially when they lack the expertise or dedicated teams to meet these demands?

What will you be doing?:

The goal is to develop a blueprint/example ESG report tailored for SMEs, which will assist them in responding to ESG information requests from larger companies, that need to comply with the European ESG Reporting requirements (CSRD and EU Taxonomy). This report will be based on voluntary standards set by EFRAG, the expertise of our Competence center on ESG reporting and will serve as a practical tool for SMEs to navigate the complexities of ESG reporting.

The expected outcome is the creation of a comprehensive and user-friendly example ESG report for SMEs that do not have to comply with the European Reporting requirements. This will involve conducting research on voluntary standards like EFRAG and analyzing best practice reports. Additional Input and feedback will be provided through interviews conducted with our ESG Competence Center and ESG advisors, ensuring the output is both comprehensive and practical.The blueprint will be designed to provide clear guidance to SMEs, helping them to report about their ESG performance, ensuring they can effectively support the sustainability goals of their larger partners, and be future proof themselves.

Other internship tasks:

Conduct desk research on voluntary ESG standards (such as EFRAG) and best practice reports.
Develop and refine the blueprint/example report in collaboration with the ESG Competence Center and other BDO ESG advisors, incorporating their input and feedback (through interviews).
Receive continuous support and guidance from the ESG Competence Center, working in an inclusive, dynamic and fun team

What do you bring to the table?:

You are happy to take the initiative and present new ideas, but also receptive to your colleagues’ point of view. You make sure to keep them informed of a project’s progress; team spirit is the way to go for you.
Your work is analytical and meticulous. You are capable of objectively and critically assessing your own and others’ work.
Stress? What’s that? You are good at setting priorities and handle deadlines well.Delivering work on time is not a problem for you.
You are fluent in Dutch, French and English.
You will graduate with a Master’s degree in 2025 and have strong interested in ESG/DE&I.
You have no problem with coming to our Zaventem office once a week (Wednesday) for the ESG team meetings.

You can expect to receive guidance on your thesis and also rely on more experienced colleagues to share their knowledge.
Internship duration: minimum of 1 month, at least 4 days a week.
You receive a remuneration of 10 euros per worked internship day.
