Duties

  • Performs a variety of trades and craft duties involving maintenance, repair and improvement of facilities. Duties require the use of trade practices associated with carpentry, painting, and laboring work.
  • Assists in the maintenance and repair of building interiors. Patches and paints walls, replaces faucet washers, light bulbs and fuses. Un-stops sinks and toilet bowls. Hangs electrical fixtures and repairs screens and storm sashes
  • Assists in the maintenance and repair of building exteriors. Prepares surfaces for painting by applying sealing compounds and primers. Finishes rough edges, smoothing them with file, emery cloth and sandpaper
  • Assists in the maintenance and repair of the grounds. Cuts grass, plants, trims hedges, trees and shrubbery. Dumps trash, waters plants and sweeps walkways, and may be required to shovel snow
  • The incumbent may be required to operate a ½ Ton up to 1 Ton motor vehicle to and from worksite to transport material and personnel.

  • Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
  • A probation period of one year may be required.
  • Possesses satisfactory completion of pre-employment background checks in accordance with AR 215-3, 2-13, to include a Tier 1 background investigation.
  • Successfully complete a health screening. Immunizations required as a condition of employment for the health and safety of those in the facility.
  • PHYSICAL EFFORT: Frequently stands, stoops, bends, kneels, climbs, and works in tiring and uncomfortable positions. May carry equipment, tools or supplies weighing from 40 to 80 pounds.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside and outside of buildings and is usually dusty, dirty and greasy. When outside, worker is exposed to extreme hot, cold, wet and dry conditions.
  • If the incumbent is required to operate a vehicle, the position is subject to mandatory drug testing.
  • Must successfully complete a post Defense Driving Course and maintain a current valid drivers license.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds (lbs).
Qualifications
Experience in performing duties as described and the ability to follow oral and written instructions involving those duties.
If the position requires the incumbent to operate a vehicle.
The incumbent must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
  • Must have a working knowledge of wood-working techniques and basic shop mathematics.
  • Must be skilled in use and operation of common hand and power tools and measuring devices of the carpentry and painting trades to perform a variety of tasks.
  • Must have a knowledge of standard surface preparation and coating methods and techniques.
  • Must have ability to read and follow basic blueprints and sketches.
  • If assigned to operate a motor vehicle, must have skills and knowledge to accomplish safe operation of vehicles operated.

FWS Allowances and Differentials
  • All FWS employees are entitled to overtime work for work in excess of 8 hours in a day or in excess of 40 hours in the administrative workweek, whichever provides the greater benefit to the employee.
  • Regular part-time employees are entitled to Sunday premium pay when working Sunday shifts. A FWS employee will be paid a night shift differential of 7.5% for the entire shift when a majority of the employee's regularly scheduled non-overtime hours of work occur between the hours of 1500 and 2400. A FWS employee will be paid a night shift differential of 10% of the scheduled rate if a majority of the employee's regularly scheduled non-overtime hours of work occur between the hours of 2300-0800.
PCS Costs
  • Payment Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government's interest.
Incentives and Bonuses
  • Incentives will not be paid.
Foreign Overseas Allowances
  • Payment of Living Quarters Allowance (LQA) is not authorized IAW the Department of States Standardized Regulations (DSSR).
