We are looking for a motivated Intake Worker/Employment Counsellor to join our Work BC Delta team!
POSITION FUNCTION:
An Intake Worker/Employment Counsellor is a professional dedicated to assisting individuals in their career journeys, offering guidance, support, and resources to help clients achieve their employment goals, using an action plan as a tool. As the Intake Worker/Employment Counsellor, your primary duties will focus on conducting client needs assessments through a structured and client-centered approach. This involves engaging in a comprehensive one-on-one interview with individual clients to gather information about their employment history, skills, education, and career goals. Utilizing standardized client needs assessment tools and active listening skills, the Intake Worker/Employment Counsellor will identify clients’ strengths, challenges, and support needs. The assessment process includes exploring factors that may impact the clients’ employability, such as personal circumstances, barriers to employment, and skill gaps. By establishing trusting and open rapport, the Intake Worker/Employment Counsellor will encourage clients to share relevant information and discuss their aspirations.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Greet and engage with clients in a professional and welcoming manner.
- Foster a positive and inclusive environment for clients by actively listening, addressing inquiries, and providing timely assistance.
- Conduct pre-screening to assess potential clients' eligibility for the Work BC program and refer ineligible individuals to other appropriate community resources.
- Assist client to register for services through the Online Employment Services (OES) portal.
- Conduct Guided Interview with clients and complete a comprehensive needs assessment to determine work experience, educational background, career goals, job readiness, interests, abilities, and aptitudes.
- Identify clients' barriers to employment, strengths, and transferrable skills.
- Provide remote service delivery (virtual) as needed.
- Oversee caseloads as a backup for Employment Counsellor when on vacation and/or vacant position to ensure client service continues in a timely manner.
- Job Start Support Financial services for self-serve and case management clients.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records, documenting assessments and action plans
in the ICM. - Uphold measures to safeguard the confidentiality of clients' sensitive information in compliance with privacy regulations and organizational policies.

Ensure that clients are aware of all available services and supports related to achieving
job attachment outcome. -
Access employment and community-related information resources and supports, as well as
government programs or benefits, clients may benefit from. - Develop and keep an updated directory of local up-to-date community-based services as well as information from community service organizations that may be useful to clients.
- Keep up-to-date with current Labour Market information.
- Adhere to ethical and professional standards in all interactions with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders, and promote the reputation and integrity of the organization.
- Other duties as assigned by management related to the provision of employment services and supports.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A post-secondary degree, certificate, or diploma in a relevant field (human resources management, career development, counselling, social work, psychology, adult education), or completion of course work in related fields, or 2 or more years of demonstrated experience in:
- Working with individuals with complex barriers and a broad range of cultural backgrounds
- Conducting and interpreting clients’ needs assessments
- Providing excellent customer service and resolving issues both in person and in a virtual service delivery environment
- Building partnerships with employers, community agencies and other stakeholders
- A combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check required.
- Able to build rapport with clients, while maintaining strong boundaries.
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills with a proven ability to write objective, well-structured case notes.
- Strong administrative skills.
- Ability to work cooperatively and respectfully in a team environment while collaborating effectively with others.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, Teams, database software, and able to operate standard office equipment.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Tactful, discrete, diplomatic, patient, flexible and possesses cultural sensitivity and excellent judgement.
- Career Development Practitioner certified will be considered an asset.
- Ability to speak a second language will be considered an asset.
- Experience with Integrated Case Management (ICM) system will be considered an asset.
HOURS: Full-time (35 hours per week)
The successful candidate must be able to commute to Work BC North Delta and South Delta/Ladner offices.
COMPENSATION:
$28.58 - $29.25 per hour
BENEFITS:
A competitive benefits package is provided with contracts of at least 1 year in length and which offer a minimum of 17.5 hours of work per week.
