POSITION: National Director of Family Services
REPORTS TO: CEO
DEPARTMENT: Family Services
LOCATION: Home Office
STATUS: Permanent, Full Time
PURPOSE:
The National Director of Family Services is a key member of the senior management team that oversees a unique, national program designed to harness the resources in each community across Canada to strengthen the capacity, resilience and independence of individuals and families who live with Huntington Disease (HD).
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Planning & Leadership
· Communicates effectively within the organization as well as with volunteers and external stakeholders
· Maintains a high level of employee performance through coaching, mentoring and evaluation
· Ensures individual work plans are created to achieve or exceed operational goals
· Responsible for the annual business planning and budget development for the portfolio
· Analyzes and reports on portfolio results related to budget
· Anticipates risks and opportunities and is able to make critical decisions
· Has a long-term vision and aligns decisions strategically
· Develops and updates formal departmental policies and procedures
Strategic Planning
· Oversee, execute and evolve as required, the Board-approved strategic direction for Family Services (FS).
Operations, Business Planning and Budget Management
· Lead and be part of the development and management of annual business plans and financial outlooks and budgets.
· Complete a detailed monthly review of spending against budget, ensure accurate and timely accounting and reporting of expenses, analyze, and resolve variances.
Family Services
· Family Services program development & delivery
· Provide effective leadership to a team of 18 full and part-time professionals across Canada, including 16 Resource Centre Directors, promoting a collaborative approach in the development and delivery of innovative tools and best practices.
Program Evaluation
· Responsible for executing, monitoring and recommending changes to current FS programs, based on ongoing evaluation of the current practices, processes and results to ensure continuous improvement.
Clinical Support, Advocacy and Relationship Management
· Supervise, support and coach Research Center Directors as they navigate through clinical decision-making processes, including those with legal ramifications.
· Responsible for managing the relationships with and representing HSC to key stakeholders and partners across Canada.
· Responsible for building and maintaining a strong profile within the neurological, degenerative, genetic and other organizations representing similar disease disorders.
· Responsible for acting as the Society’s link with other organizations and clinics and clinical studies across Canada, that involve with people living with HD.
· Responsible for providing advice to various Society staff and volunteers regarding people living with HD.
· Participate in advocacy initiatives with governments and service organizations to improve policies and services for people living with HD
Community Development
· Provide leadership and strategic direction to family support initiatives including, but not limited to, Information sessions, community events, Community Education Forums and national conferences.
· Provide leadership and strategic direction to Youth services including YPAHD days and support, and the Youth Mentorship Program (recruitment, training and supervision of mentors and support staff).
Information Management
· Responsible for electronic client data base system (Penelope):
· Responsible for update and creation of HD related material
· Lead the development of an effective and high performing team, ensuring high standards of delivery, competence and Society values are maintained and that individuals are well supported in fulfilling their accountabilities, developing their skills and achieving their career potential. Specifically:
· Work with external partners, consultants and associated volunteer advisory groups/committees to engage required expertise and direction in developing and/or implementing plans as needed.
KEY COMPETENCIES:
· Participative approach to leadership and managing teams
· Ability to supervise national team remotely across 6 time zones
· Strong financial acumen in budget development, analysis and reporting
· Excellent communication and presentation skills (written and verbal)
· Proficient with the Microsoft Suite programs
· Experience with project management and strategic planning
· Ability to lead cross-organizational change/development
· Bilingualism is an asset

- Ensuring data is entered from the field on a regular basis and that the data is relevant to our current and future needs.
- Creating management reports to inform decision making going forward and the Board as to current stats and volume in the field
· Responsible for update and creation of HD related material
- Ensure resources are kept up to date and identify information gaps
- Ensure HD info and FS staff contact information is up to date on HSC website
· Lead the development of an effective and high performing team, ensuring high standards of delivery, competence and Society values are maintained and that individuals are well supported in fulfilling their accountabilities, developing their skills and achieving their career potential. Specifically:
- Providing clear direction on business goals and priorities; ensure optimal deployment of resources to achieve business goals
- Establish team performance plan; build a strong team and develop cohesive lateral relationships cross functionally.
- Establish individual performance plans and objectives and review on an ongoing basis; provide coaching and feedback to direct reports.
· Work with external partners, consultants and associated volunteer advisory groups/committees to engage required expertise and direction in developing and/or implementing plans as needed.

- Masters of Social Work (MSW)
- Current registered member in good standing of the provincial college of social work
- 5+ years management experience
- Must be able to travel to events, conference, etc., as well as to national office as required
