Intent of the process
The intent of this process is to fill one (1) position on an indeterminate (permanent) basis in Wainwright, Alberta.

A pool of qualified persons resulting from this process may be created and may be used to fill similar positions with linguistic profiles English essential, bilingual imperative BBB/BBB, bilingual imperative CBC/CBC, bilingual non imperative BBB/BBB, bilingual non imperative CBC/CBC as well as tenures (indeterminate, deployment, acting, assignment, secondment, specified period) which may vary according to the position being staffed.

This pool may be used to staff similar positions in other organizations within the core public administration (http://www.psc-cfp.gc.ca/plcy-pltq/rfli-lirf/index-eng.htm).

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)


EDUCATION
✨ EDU: A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives (see Note 1).

Note:
The employer-approved alternatives to a secondary school diploma are:
  • A satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a
secondary school diploma; or
  • An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
Candidates who already meet both of the following criteria must be accepted as meeting the
secondary school diploma requirement:
  • Candidates who have achieved a satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test
approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; and
  • Candidates who have been appointed or deployed for an indeterminate period to a position in the
GT classification.
The opportunity to be assessed by at least one of the two employer-approved alternatives must be offered to candidates who have not previously met the secondary school diploma requirement.
Candidates who were appointed or deployed on an indeterminate basis using an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience meet the secondary school requirement for the GT classification only and must be reassessed for entry to other classifications on the basis of this alternative.

EXPERIENCE
✨ EX1: Experience working with Microsoft Office software such as Outlook, Word, and Excel.
✨ EX2: Experience in the safe operation of weapons systems and ammunition, including identifying unexploded ordnance and munitions as well as salvage. Weapons systems could include grenades, machine guns, mortars, howitzers, main battle tanks, and their associated ammunition.
✨ EX3: Experience in land navigation using resources such as a GPS, map and compass, and familiarity with the military grid reference system.
✨ EX4: Experience working in a military training environment comprised of various tactical groups that engage in land manoeuvre warfare ranges while adhering to training safety regulations and procedures.

  • As a result of workforce adjustment, affected indeterminate DND employees within the Aerospace Engineering Test Establishment (AETE - UIC 2671) at 4 Wing Cold Lake or within the British Army Training Unit Suffield (BATUS – UIC 7777) at Canadian Forces Base Suffield will be appointed or deployed to positions for which they are qualified ahead of other candidates.

  • In support of Strong, Secure, Engaged (SSE) initiative #24, consideration may be given to the spouses orcommon-law partners of Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members.
Conditions of employment
Reliability Status security clearance
  • Possession of a valid Class 5 Alberta driver's license.
  • Must be willing and able to obtain and maintain a valid DND 404 driver's license.
  • Willing and able to work overtime, as required.
  • Willing and able to do shift work.
  • Willing and able to work outdoors during inclement weather.
  • Must be willing and able to use and wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as directed.
  • Willing and able to operate four-wheel drive vehicles and walk over rough terrain for several hours at a time.
  • Willing and able to be employed in proximity to military training that simulates combat scenarios.
  • Willing and able to lift 25 kg.
  • Willing and able to monitor and operate a radio for safety purposes.
