Supervisor, Train Operations

Summary of Position
Cadre’s Transit division offers our clients technical rail service solutions including commissioning and testing of new transit vehicles, warranty repairs, preventative maintenance, and inspection services. Our employees work with the leading Ontario transit suppliers and agencies, ensuring their equipment is available to provide reliable on time service to their passengers in some of North America’s largest transit systems.

Reporting to the Manager of Train Operations, the Supervisor, Train Operations will be responsible for ensuring that train movements are operated safely, on time, efficiently and economically across the Regional Rail commuter system operating in Southern Ontario. This role is a first line crew supervisor working out of an outpost facility, and will interact closely with the other Managers and Supervisors in operations and maintenance departments.

Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Ensure that all transportation and customer service activities are performed safely and promptly while providing a courteous service to clients in accordance with corporate policies, practices, government regulations, Canada Rail Operating Rules and special instructions
  • Coordinate, direct and supervise Train Operators through the application of technical and managerial skills related to customer service delivery and the safe operation of trains and the provision of a quality service in accordance with the advertised train schedules
  • Conduct predeparture meetings with train crews prior to service to review safety bulletins, service notices, and adherence to fitness for duty
  • Shadow train crews during route to ensure processes are running smoothly and the adherence to service and safety procedures
  • Provide guidance and leadership to train crews to resolve customer complaints, accidents, incidents, rule violations and potential staff failures, providing corrective actions to prevent reoccurrences
  • Keep thorough logs and details about the day-to-day events
Requirements
  • Completed Secondary School and possess an OSSD or GED
  • Previous experience leading train or public transit operations with a focus on service
  • Prior experience as a Locomotive Engineer; 5 years experience working in the rail industry; experience as a Railway Supervisor, Trainmaster or Superintendent will also be considered
  • Strong English communication skills
  • Strong conflict resolution skills
  • Available to work at an outpost located in Kitchener, Barrie, Stouffville, Oshawa, Richmond Hill or Milton.
