Temporary Youth Justice Counsellor & Child & Youth Mental Health Therapist

Location: Based in Vanderhoof, Serving Northern Region as needed.
Hours of Work: 30 hrs/wk = Youth Justice 22.5 hr/wk + CYMH 7.5 hrs/wk , 8:30 am to 4:30pm, Monday to Thursday Client services will be provided on a flexible basis which may include evening & weekends.

Salary: $43.03 - $52.58/hour as per CSSEA & CSSBA Collective Agreement (Grid Level 16P)
Youth Justice: Assesses, treats, and counsels youth who have been sentenced under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) and who are conditionally released to the areas of Vanderhoof, Fraser Lake, Fort St. James, Burns Lake, and within the Northern Region as needed. Service provision includes direct treatment intervention through individual, group and family counselling sessions using a variety of therapeutic counseling techniques. Indirect service includes consultation with Youth Probation Officers, Youth Forensic Psychiatric Services, schools, social workers, caregivers, and collateral contacts.
The Child and Youth Mental Health Therapist works within a multi-disciplinary team to provide prevention, assessment, referral, clinical counselling and follow-up services to individuals and family members affected by mental health issues. Provides assessments and therapeutic services for children and youth 18 and under who are experiencing mental health problems, or who may be at risk of developing a mental health condition. Services will be extended to include family or other caregivers and service providers. Services will also be provided to the community members in the form of psycho-educational presentations and awareness.
Qualifications & Experience:

• A Master’s degree preferred or Bachelor’s degree considered in Human/Social Services related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• At least 2 years recent related experience
• Must be sensitive to and respectful of cultural differences, differences in socio-economic status and lifestyle diversity. Must be non-judgmental
• Knowledge of relevant socio-historical events relevant to Indigenous culture
• Well-developed interpersonal, counselling, oral and written communication skills
• Intermediate Computer Skills (moderate understanding of, word processing, graphics, spreadsheets, databases)

Required:

• Valid class 5 driver’s license & satisfactory drivers abstract
• Criminal Record Check clearance
• COVID19 Fully Vaccinated (2 shots) required
• This position requires union membership
