(Assistant) Manager, Gas tanker operation(005974)

Why does this position exist? With what permanent objectives?
BASF has been a committed partner to Great China since 1885, with large production sites in Shanghai, Nanjing, and Chongqing. Currently with an investment of up to US$10 billion, the new integrated site in Guangdong will be BASF’s largest investment and ultimately BASF’s third-largest site worldwide, operated under sole responsibility of BASF. BASF will install a steam cracker with a planned capacity of 1 million metric tons/year of ethylene and more than 40 process plants, which produce innovative and consumer-oriented downstream products, providing supply chain service is vital for the success of the new Verbund site.
This position will assist bulk parcel operation team leader to perform, execute and facilitate all related activities in handling both inbound and outbound gas tanker shipment transportation of the BASF Zhanjiang Verbund site to optimize freight and increase service reliability which including but not limited to shipment planning, vessel selection, vessel sourcing(where needed) ,as well as all post fixture activities such as surveyor appointment, track & track, B/L coordination, freight management etc. closely linked to internal and external stakeholder, High standard services aim for on-time delivery, seamless operation, compliance, and safety are key objectives of this position.
Main Areas of Responsibilities and Key Activities
1.Monitor and operationalize the execution of both chartering and post fixture activities on concluded COA or Spot fixtures in accordance with the applicable charter party.
2.Handle complexity of volume and shipment planning to optimize freight saving.
3.Liaise and coordinate with business unit and brokers/shipowners in fixing vessel and completing execution of the charter party contract.
4.Constantly monitor the ship’s movement during her transit and her operational activities at each port to have the best turnaround of the ship according to the agreed Charter Party/freighting contract.
5.Ensure that the computation of laytime and potential demurrage is appropriately done so as to dictate whether there is/potentially is demurrage incurred for each shipment arranged and outcome is to be distributed to all concerned parties for appropriate action.
6.Support import & export team in handling customs clearance related to bulk parcel operation, coordinate with local customs to carry out statutory inspection & sampling when required, and make sure cargo be released on time.
7.Manage critical issues and claims with shipowner and affected internal & external business partners, escalate issues further if required and ensure that effective measure is implemented timely to improve customer satisfaction.
8.Leading and driving berthing prioritization, cargo surveyor appointment and the coordination with all relevant parties on the creation, confirmation, issuance, and release of Bills of Lading.
9.Work closely with all relevant stakeholders covering shipowners, brokers, shippers, receivers, terminals, related BASF entities in ensure seamless bulk parcel shipping charactering & post fixture operations and where necessary lead the coordination of issue resolution where required.
10.Ensure that the processing of all bulk parcel freight invoices, shipowner claims are processed in a timely manner and where necessary actively drive resolutions on this topic.
11.Support team leader on digitalization development and team administration.
Bachelor’s degree in either of the following disciplines: logistics management, technical of navigation, chemical engineering, business management, shipping management or equivalent.
College degree can be accepted if have enrich working experience or excellent talents.
Minimum 5 years of experience in commercial, operations, post fixture or chartering function from petrochemical, gas tanker shipping company which handling gas product (e.g., ethylene, propylene) transportation operation.
Be familiar with both international and domestic gas tanker market resources and have excellent knowledge and ability in handling the vessel’s stowage and planning to execute shipment, optimize freight and reduce demurrage cost.
Be familiar with handling of post fixtures activities on gas tanker transportation.
Possess excellent problem solving, analytical, negotiation and interpersonal skills with can-do attitude.
Have basic knowledge of environment (MARPOL regulation), health & safety aspect on gas tanker transportation and trade control. Have basic knowledge of IGC code, cargo quantity and quality control of gas product.
Self-motivated, independent, result-oriented team player and able to work under high pressure in adynamic growing environment.
Fluent in spoken and written English and Chinese with good communication and presentation skill.
Applicants must be willing to work in Zhanjiang, China.
