Work Goals and Purpose
Enriched Inclusion programming (EI) serves the needs of students with intensive educational needs including those who are twice exceptional. The EI Lead Teacher provides leadership and guidance in the development of the EI program at WAB. This includes advising on the development of WAB’s physical spaces, coordination of all services, and the oversight of the growth and development of the EI program across Middle School and High School (Grade 6 to 12)
The Lead Teacher is responsible for the case management and teaching of EI students, as well as other students receiving supports through Support Services. This is a 0.5 stipended role with no release time and is combined with another 0.5 Support Services Teacher role.
Tasks & Responsibilities
Coordination and Collaboration

Collaborate with Whole School Educational Psychologist, Head of Student Support Services and relevant Principals.

Develop coherent set of procedures aligned with the school’s mission and vision, in the development and direction of WAB’s Enriched Inclusion program, including EI curriculum, facilities, resources, and budget

Collaborate with teaching, support services, and administration team to support the inclusion of EI students in mainstream and specialist classes through the principle of the Least Restrictive Environment

Collaborate with Admissions Office in screening new students for acceptance and/or placement in the EI program.

Develop and coordinate schedules for EI students, including therapy, individualized and small group lessons

Coordinate training, timetable, and internal coverage for Specialized Teaching Assistants
-
Review identification, referral and placement processes for students eligible for acceleration.
Communication
-
Maintain and disseminate effective communication regarding EI support to the parent community
-
Liaise with classroom teachers, Support Services teachers, clinicians, parents, students, the School Leadership Team, and external service providers

Guide the articulation of differentiated instruction for EI students in mainstream classes

Keep abreast of research and other developments in the field of Support Services and communicate new learning with colleagues and the community as appropriate

Recommend policies, programs, and procedures essential to the needs of EI students

Provide EI orientation to new students, their parents, and new teachers
Case Management
-
Develop and update Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for EI student throughout the school year to reflect progress and goals
-
Keep ongoing record of assessment of students’ skills to determine their changing needs and to develop teaching plans accordingly.

Guide and supervise Specialized Teaching Assistants in adapting lessons.

Support teachers in adapting lessons to meet the personalized needs of EI student.

Facilitate discussions with parents, teachers, counselors, and administration to support student progress

Case manage students who are accelerated by updating profiles, finding extension opportunities, and fostering close home-school partnership

Prepare and help EI student transitions from grade to grade
Teaching and Learning
-
Provide direct student support through small group or individual instruction in both general education and learning support classroom.

Provide push-in support for academic skill development in core academic subjects and provide executive functioning skills in the classroom for all students.

Explicitly teach executive functioning skills to help students develop organization, time management, advocacy, study habit, and compensatory learning strategies.

Collaborate with teachers to create differentiation practices, small group intervention, and personalized activities to accommodate diverse learning needs.

Regularly review and update student support profiles in consultation with student, teacher, parent, and school counsellor.

Keep parents informed of student progress through emails, meetings, report cards, and parent teacher conferences.

Offer extracurricular activities after school and engage in all duties relevant to supporting and safeguarding students, including during WAB Wild, WABX, and China Study Trip.

Serve as grade level mentor to build positive relationships with students and perform all related duties and responsibilities related to mentoring.

Be available during lunch and before/after school to students who need more support, as needed.

Develop and offer Day 9 workshops on life skills, study skills, or executive functioning for students.

Participate as an active member of the Learning Support Department, and in other school-wide and section-specific school improvement initiatives.

Supervise a combination of 3 IB projects (EE and Personal Project).
Qualifications & Experience
-
Minimum of 2 years of experience in developing and coordinating inclusive programs for intensive needs and/or twice exceptional students
-
Relevant Master's degree
-
Inclusive Education teacher certification
-
Relevant leadership experience in coordinating or providing oversight of support programs and processes.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills
-
Strong team facilitation and problem-solving skills
-
Outstanding human relations skills, including a positive, “can do” attitude, and a commitment to collaborative teamwork
