Would you like to gain experience in writing international project applications and champion children's rights in Zambia?
Kirkernes Integrations Tjeneste (KIT) is expanding its development department, and we need two volunteers interested in working with our partners in Zambia (via online meetings) to write project applications to CKU (Center for Kirkeligt Udvikling), CISU (Civil Samfund i Udvikling) and other donors in and outside of Denmark.

Our partners, Advocacy for Child Justice (ACJ), need help diversifying their donor portfolio. KIT and ACJ have implemented three projects together since 2015, and we would like to continue our good work for the benefit of children’s rights in Zambia.

Required skills

It is important to have good writing and speaking skills in English and have between 10 to 15 hours a month to dedicate to the tasks.

Some background knowledge about international development work, and/or children’s rights globally.

What do you get out of it?

Insight into the development work of a small civil society organization that makes a difference both in Denmark and in the Global South.

Experience cooperating with partners in Zambia, understanding their needs and co-writing project applications with them.

Insight into how a partnership between a Danish and Zambian civil society organizations work in practice. For example, how do we tackle power imbalances and secure South-lead leadership?

If we get funding to one or more projects for the KIT & ACJ alliance, there is the possibility of being part of a monitoring trip to Zambia.

The opportunity to learn how a civil society organization in Zambia works and survives.

Why is this important work?

ACJ has been working to improve the lives of children in Zambia for 16 years. They make a difference for children by providing free counselling for children who have been victims of defilement, rape or other types of violations. They provide free legal aid for the children’s families, so that they can bring perpetrators to justice. ACJ and KIT have lately implemented a project aimed at giving children and youth (and their families) rescued from e.g. marriages income generating skills, so they can run small businesses.

ACJ has solid experience with advocacy work in Zambia. Their biggest achievement is the enactment of the Child Code Act No 12, which brings Zambian law related to children up to international standards. Forbidding for example, child marriages.

Practicalities

The job can be done remotely, or at KITs office, if that is preferred. There will be meetings with KITs project leader, to provide guidance and feedback.
