Curriculum Officer (English Language Education) (EDB/CDI/332/24)

(b) A certificate in education from a Hong Kong tertiary educational institution, or equivalent [see Note (ii)];
(c) Met the language proficiency requirements of 'Level 2' results in the two language papers [Use of Chinese (UC) and Use of English (UE)] in the Common Recruitment Examination (CRE), or equivalent [see Note (iv)];
(d) A pass result in the Basic Law and National Security Law Test [see Note (v)];
(e) At least 6 years' relevant post-qualification [as specified in (a) and (b)] experience in English teaching and/or curriculum development [see Note (iii)];
(f) A Hong Kong higher degree in English Language, English Studies, English Literature, English Language Education, Translation, or a related discipline [see Note (ii)] and/or experience in the teaching and/or curriculum development of English Language at the primary level preferred [see Note (iii)];
(g) Good knowledge of the local education system and the curriculum reform as well as current trends in English Language education in both local and international settings; and
(h) Good leadership and interpersonal skills [see Note (vi)].
(ii) Candidates should mark clearly on their application forms the major and minor subjects studied in their degree courses. Candidates possessing additional qualifications (e.g. a second/higher degree in a relevant subject) should include details in their applications.
(iii) Candidates should state the nature and relevancy of the post-qualification experience.
(iv) Candidates' results of the Use of Chinese (UC) and Use of English (UE) papers in the Common Recruitment Examination (CRE) are classified as 'Level 2', 'Level 1' or 'Fail', with 'Level 2' being the highest. 'Level 5' or above in Chinese Language of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE); or Grade 'C' or above in Chinese Language and Culture or Chinese Language and Literature of the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (HKALE) are accepted as equivalent to 'Level 2' in the UC paper of the CRE. 'Level 5' or above in English Language of the HKDSEE; or Grade 'C' or above in Use of English of the HKALE; or Grade 'C' or above in English Language of the General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level) (GCE A Level), are accepted as equivalent to 'Level 2' in the UE paper of the CRE. Applicants with an overall band of 6.5 or above with no subtest score below band 6 obtained in the same sitting in the Academic Module of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) within the two-year validity period of the test result are accepted as equivalent to 'Level 2' in the UE paper of the CRE. The IELTS test result must be valid on any date during the application period.
(v) A pass result in the Basic Law and National Security Law Test is an entry requirement for Curriculum Officer jobs in the Education Bureau. All applicants for Curriculum Officer jobs will be assessed on their knowledge of the Basic Law and the National Security Law. Only those candidates who have passed the Basic Law and National Security Law Test will be considered for appointment.
(vi) Candidates should be responsible, self-motivated and enthusiastic; have fine character and integrity; be committed to serving in the education field; and be able to communicate effectively in Chinese and English.
(b) To assist in planning, organising and providing in-service professional development programmes for English Language teachers to facilitate the implementation of the English Language Education curriculum and other curriculum initiatives;
(c) To assist in planning and organising territory-wide language activities and developing resources to support curriculum implementation (including the production and dissemination of learning and teaching resource materials, and examples of good practices for English Language);
(d) To take part in conducting and monitoring curriculum innovation programmes, projects, research and evaluation;
(e) To review English Language textbooks and learning materials;
(f) To provide subject-related professional services and to participate in subject-related committees and task groups within and/or outside the Education Bureau; (g) To develop, promote and implement language enhancement measures;
(h) To perform administrative duties related to the day-to-day operation of the English Language Education Section; and
(i) To undertake any other duties assigned.
(b) A gratuity may be granted upon satisfactory completion of the contract with consistently high standard of performance and conduct. Such gratuity, if granted, plus any contribution made by the Government to a Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) scheme in respect of the appointee as required by the MPF Schemes Ordinance, will be equal to 15% of the total basic salary drawn during the contract period.
(c) Other fringe benefits include medical and dental benefits and, where appropriate, housing benefits.
