The Asia-Pacific (APAC) region for Cooper Vision consists of the country markets of Japan, South Korea, Australia & NZ, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia as well as Asia Distributor markets, including Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines and Vietnam.


The Financial Controller Hong Kong will serve as a key member of the CVHK Leadership Team and have primary day-to-day responsibility for all financial, accounting, tax, treasury, internal control, budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, reporting and compliance activities, including regulatory requirements within the medical device industry.


This is a significant business partnering role requiring a high-caliber individual to collaborate with the CVHK Leadership Team and all functions to make decisions, providing tactical and strategic financial leadership. This includes leading the forecasting, planning & analysis and commercial analytics as well as being responsible for all accounting and internal controls.


This role will be accountable for driving operational efficiencies by identifying and implementing systems and process enhancements that create improved controls, service levels and operational improvements and will understand and anticipate the appropriate information, metrics and business intelligence.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Strong quantitative orientation, exhibiting a quick grasp of numbers with the strategic ability to interpret for smart decision making.
  • Proven technical accounting expertise, including knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and the Sarbannes-Oxley Act (SOX).
  • Experience in system migration/implementation.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Direct, hands-on experience of integrating finance activities and resources through acquisition and/or geographic expansion would be an advantage.
  • Demonstrated business partnering experience, building strong working relationships with commercial and operations teams to make sound business decisions.
  • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Self motivated with a high level of energy and displaying initiative.
  • Continually drive for process and systems improvement.
  • Exceptional at leading, managing and developing Finance Teams.
  • Project Management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects or initiatives simultaneously would also be helpful.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently at all levels of the organization, create interdepartmental links based on different projects with a respective level of integrity.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and spoken English language skills.
Work Environment
  • This role is based in Hong Kong, in a standard commercial office environment / setting.
  • Virtual team collaboration between country and regional colleagues, through use of Web Ex and company instant messaging platform.
  • Some travel will form a necessary part of this role.
  • Must be prepared to work extended hours on occasion
Experience
  • A Financial Controller with 10-15+ years of senior financial operational management experience in Hong Kong.
  • Experienced working in a US Multi-National in a dynamic and competitive marketplace would be an advantage.
  • Comfortable working within a matrix-management-style organization.
  • Demonstrates working in a highly collaborative organization with a “roll-up your sleeves” culture.
Education
  • Bachelor’s or advanced university degree in business, finance or accounting with demonstrable professional experience in a commercial environment.
  • CPA, CA or ACCA professional qualification woujld be an advantage.


Essential Functions
  • Plan, develop, organize, implement, direct and evaluate the organization’s fiscal function and performance.
  • Responsible for all monthly and quarterly closing and financial reporting to Corporate.
  • Participate, as a strategic partner, in the development of CVHK’s plans and initiatives.
  • Evaluate and advise on the impact of long-range planning and introduction of new programs / strategies.
  • Develop credibility for the finance group by providing timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial reports and trends to assist the CVHK Leadership Team in the performance of their responsibilities.
  • Develop, implement and enforce policies and procedures of the organization that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of CVHK.
  • Provide technical financial advice and guidance to all the functions within CVHK.
  • Lead the continual improvement of the budget forecast process throguh ecucation of funcaional managers on financial issues impacting their budgets.
  • Provide strategic financial input and leadership on decision-making issues affecting CVHK - for example: the evaluation of potential acquisitions, channel and geographic expansion and significant capital expenditure investment.
  • Identify & Implement and execute appropriate strategies to enhance treasury management and to ensure appropriate cash resources to meet operating needs.
  • Provide the financial input and oversight, on any Sales, Purchase or Lease contracts into which CVHK may enter.
  • Lead the Finance team in CVHK, ensuring performance objectives are set and monitored and robust individual professional and personal development plans are in place.
  • Work on continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the team.
  • Maintain compliance in the areas of corporate, VAT and payroll taxes and provide the lead for any potential tax audits or enquiries related to CVHK.
  • Responsible for CVHK’s Internal Control environment, ensuring compliance with all APAC regional Internal Controls and the timely remediation of any control deficiencies.
  • Be in charge of payroll process
  • Act as a director, legal representative or Statutory Auditor of selected legal entities.
  • Any other ad hoc projects or initiatives that maybe required.
