Part-time Intellectual Property Tutor

(a)(i) a Certificate in Education from a Hong Kong tertiary educational institution, or equivalent; or
(ii) not less than 5 years’ working experience in teaching; or
(iii) not less than 5 years’ working experience in relation to protection of intellectual property rights; and
(b) a good command of written Chinese and English and spoken Cantonese and English with Level 2 or above in both Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) or in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent [Note (1)].
(2) Upon initial vetting, eligible candidates will be required to attend an interview tentatively in November/December 2024. Candidates may be required to take a quiz with multiple choice questions on intellectual property (IP).
(3) Successful candidates will be invited to attend a tailor-made training course before delivering school talks/seminars. Candidates need not pay for the training, but they will not receive remuneration of any sort or be reimbursed the travelling expenses.
(a) conduct IP talks/seminars in schools or youth organizations as assigned, the school talks/seminars may fall into anytime during normal school hours (around 8:30am to 3:30pm) or day time on Saturdays (around 8:30am to 3:30pm);
(b) gather questions raised during talks/seminars or in schools or youth organizations and collect feedbacks or comments from schools or youth organizations;
(c) share IP knowledge with teachers/students in schools or tutors/members of youth organizations and clarify their concerns regarding IP if appropriate; and
(d) perform any other duties relating to the Programme as and when required by Intellectual Property Department.

(e) Where a large number of candidates meet the specified entry requirements, the recruiting department may devise shortlisting criteria to select the better qualified candidates for further processing. In these circumstances, only shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend recruitment examination and/or interview.
(f) It is Government policy to place people with a disability in appropriate jobs wherever possible. If a disabled candidate meets the entry requirements, he/she will be invited to attend the selection interview/written examination without being subject to any further shortlisting criteria. Applicants who have declared disabilities found suitable for appointment may be given an appropriate degree of preference over other applicants whose suitability for appointment is considered comparable to that of the former. The Government policy and other related measures on employment of persons with disabilities are set out in the booklet “Employ People Based on Their Abilities – Application for Government Jobs by Persons with Disabilities” which is available for reference on the Civil Service Bureau's website at http://www.csb.gov.hk under “Administration of the Civil Service – Appointments”.
(g) Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institution/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications. They should submit copies of their official transcripts and certificates by mail to the above enquiry address.
(h) Towards the application deadline, our on-line system would likely be overloaded due to large volume of applications. To ensure timely completion of your on-line application, it is advisable to submit the application as early as possible.
(i) gradings of the subjects taken in public examinations from secondary education onwards (with copies of local/overseas academic certificates and transcripts); and
(ii) employment records with detailed description of duties and experience (with copies of documentary proof of the working experience).
(b) The application form [G.F. 340 (Rev. 7/2023)] is obtainable from any Home Affairs Enquiry Centre of District Offices, Home Affairs Department or any Job Centre of the Employment Services Division, Labour Department. The said form can also be downloaded from the Civil Service Bureau’s website (http://www.csb.gov.hk). The new version of application form for Government jobs G.F. 340 (Rev. 7/2023) has been in use with effect from 26 July 2023. Candidates who apply for Government jobs advertised on or after 26 July 2023 should use the new G.F. 340 (Rev. 7/2023). If candidates submit the old version form (G.F. 340 (Rev. 3/2013)), they will be required to fill in the new G.F. 340 (Rev. 7/2023) afresh and submit it within seven days upon request. If candidates fail to submit the new G.F. 340 (Rev. 7/2023) within the stipulated deadline, their applications will not be processed further.
(c) On-line application can also be made through the Civil Service Bureau’s website at http://www.csb.gov.hk. Candidates who apply on-line should submit their C.V. by post with sufficient postage to the Administration Unit, Intellectual Property Department, 25/F, Wu Chung House, 213 Queen’s Road East, Wanchai, Hong Kong within one week after the close of application period. On-line application number should be quoted on the envelope and the copies of supporting documents. Please specify on the envelope “Application for the post of Part-time Intellectual Property Tutor”. If candidates fail to provide the supporting documents as required, their applications will not be considered.
(d) If candidates do not receive an acknowledge slip/a confirmation e-mail within five working days after the closing date for application, please contact the Administration Unit at 3520 0747 immediately. Candidates who are selected for interview will normally receive an invitation in about eight to twelve weeks after the closing date for application. Those who are not invited for interview may assume that their applications are unsuccessful. As invitations will be issued by post or by email, applicants should provide accurate correspondence address and email address and ensure that their email accounts can receive incoming emails properly.
(e) The completed application form and C.V. can be sent by post to the enquiry address below and should be submitted on or before the closing date for application (the postmark date on the envelope will be regarded as the date of submission of application). Please specify on the envelope “Application for the post of Part-time Intellectual Property Tutor”.
(f) To avoid unsuccessful delivery of mail items, please ensure that the correct address is clearly printed or written on the envelope and sufficient postage has been paid before posting. Mail items bearing insufficient postage will not be delivered to this Department and will be returned to the sender or disposed of by the Hong Kong Post, where appropriate. An applicant will bear any consequences arising from not paying sufficient postage.
(g) Applications which are late, incomplete, submitted by fax or by e-mail or not made in the prescribed form will NOT be considered.
(h) Applications with incomplete, unclear information or without required photocopies of the above documents will NOT be considered.
