Project Title: Study of microplastic biofilm-facilitated transfer and enrichment
of aquatic pathogens and antibiotic resistance in Hong Kong waters, and
potential mechanisms

[Appointment Period: 12 months]


The appointee will participate in research projects related to the topics of (1) microplastic biofilm
and (2) aquatic pathogens and antibiotic resistance. The major duties include conducting a literature
review, collecting samples from the coastal environment and sample processing, DNA/RNA
extraction, PCR analysis and sequencing, and performing data analysis. They will also be
responsible for drafting reports, papers, and proposals for submission, carrying out general
administrative duties, and performing any other duties as assigned. The appointment will be for a
period of around 12 months, with the possibility of renewal subject to mutual agreement.

Applicants should have a bachelor's degree or above. Relevant research experience in (1) pollution
monitoring and (2) environmental microbiology is preferred. Preference will also be given to
applicants with good knowledge of marine pollution-related research, experience in field work, and
the ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision. They should also be a good team
player, attentive to details, highly self-motivated, and able to work under pressure. Immediate
availability is preferred.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract. Fringe benefits include contract-end
