Senior Engineer

SCMP Magazines owns some of the city’s finest lifestyle media brands, including Cosmopolitan, ELLE, Harper’s BAZAAR, Esquire, and ELLE Men. Each of these titles has its own unique strengths and reaches a vast majority of men and women in Hong Kong. This position will be in the Technology team managing the web development of our magazines titles.
Purpose of the position:
Work with the team to execute the concepts, and shape the next generation of our platforms by enhancing and optimising it. Build new features, and work with different internal parties to bring the beauty and ease of use in order to enhance user experience.
Job Responsibilities:
- Work closely with designers, fellow engineers and product owners in achieving business goals and rapidly driving product iteration using Agile methodologies
- Develop new or maintain existing web projects and systems with high quality code
- Design, build, and maintain efficient and reliable Dev Ops pipelines to support software development teams.
- Implement automation tools and frameworks (CI/CD pipelines) to streamline the development and deployment processes.
- Collaborate with web developers to ensure the stability, reliability, and performance of production systems.
- Monitor and optimize system performance, reliability, and scalability.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues in development, testing, and production environments.
- Implement best practices for security, compliance, and efficiency.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in Dev Ops.
- Degree holder in computer science or related disciplines with minimum 4 years of web application design and software development
- Solid experience in Dev Ops practices and methodologies.
- Proficiency with automation tools such as Git Lab CI/CD or similar.
- Strong experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Experience of responsive web build, Java Script, CSS, Linux, RDBMS, No SQL
- Experienced in resolving cross browser compatibility issues including mobile devices
- Good understanding of web performance tuning, web analytics and SEO techniques
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Distinctive problem solving and analytical skills; flexible, proactive and ability to work under fast-paced environment
- A good team player, independent, responsible, eager to learn and passionate about exploring new technology
- Proficient in written and spoken in Cantonese and English
