Job Summary
The Decarbonising Climate Officer is responsible for the following specific duties:
- Participate in the further development of the national DZ concept with stakeholders including the CARO and the Department of Environment, Community and Climate and deliver on the objectives of the KCC CAP as set out in the KCC CAP 2024 – 2029 (Including Just Transition).
- Build capacity in the community to accelerate meaningful behavioural change and climate action locally.
- Scale up the proven actions to ‘fast followers’ communities.

- Governance and leadership
- Built Envionments & Transport
- Natural Envionment & Green Infrastructure
- Communities: Resilience & Transition
- Sustainability & Resource Management
- Develop and implement a DZ Activation Plan in line with the DZ Vision, Opportunities and Actions outlined in the Kildare LACAP 2024 - 2029 and the EU Just Transition Fund programme.
Education, Training and Experience etc.:
Candidates shall on the latest date for receipt of completed application forms for the office:
- A relevant Degree (level 8) with First or Second Class Honours of a recognised University or of a recognised Degree Awarding Body; or equivalent professional qualification in a relevant field e.g. sustainable development, sustainable energy, climate change, environmental management, agriculture etc.
- Not less than two years of satisfactory relevant and acceptable post qualification experience.
- Possess a high standard of technical training and experience and demonstrate a record of excellent project management skills resulting in successful outcomes, simultaneously managing and coordinating multiple projects of differing scale, nature and complexity, bringing them to a conclusion on time and on budget.
- Possess a high standard of administrative and management experience including measuring and reporting on actions.
- Have satisfactory knowledge of Local Authority operations, particularly in respect of their responsibilities for and enhancing their capacity on Emission Reduction, Carbon Reduction and Climate Action to accelerate behavioural change.
- Have a satisfactory level of knowledge in the area of biodiversity and green infrastructure.
- Have a high level of technical competence and experience in delivering successful outcomes, formulating, implementing and managing strategies, plans, studies or processes including stakeholder engagement.
- Demonstrate a successful track record in managing and motivating staff including strong judgement and problem-solving skills.
- Have excellent interpersonal, communication and influencing skills;
- Have technical report writing skills and ability to communicate findings to a non-technical audience.
- Have an excellent knowledge of health and safety legislation and regulations and their application in the workplace and competence and experience of financial and budget management.
Applicants should at the date of appointment hold a full valid Irish /EU licence, for Class B vehicles
