Hours of work:
Full Time 39 hours per week (Monday to Saturday, working flexibly to meet the needs of service.
Every 2nd Saturday from 8.30 am to 5.00 pm).

Position Summary:

The staff member is required to be flexible, and undertake administration duties to support the work of the division as whole in providing a quality service to patients, staff and visitors which is the cornerstone of our service. The General Services Division covers Portering, Security, Cleaning, Laundry, Switchboard, Medical Records, Chaplaincy, Reception, Front Desk, Catering, Waste Management, transport including Boardroom/Committee Room.

Responsibilities:
The post holder will:
  • Ensure confidentiality in all matters of information obtained during the course of employment.
  • Present and act in a professional manner all times.
  • Perform such other duties appropiate to the post as may be assigned from time to time by the manager or a nominee.
  • Provide an effective and efficient service.
  • Have a working knowledge of, and adhere to, departmental and organizational policies at all times.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

Laundry duties:-
  • On audit review the linen segregation guidelines and curtain exchange programmes are in place and are in date.
  • Once the linen segregation guidelines (3 yearly) and curtain exchange programmes (yearly) are updated place in the linen cupboard door and remove out of date notices.
  • Provide any PPE training to the laundry contractors to ensure compliance with the infectious status of areas.
  • Review the supply of laundry in the Pathology on call rooms and advise the laundry staff to restock.
  • Check the quality of the dust mats and advise Laundry to change same if required.
  • Ensure the areas where the scrub machines are located are neat and tidy and not obstructed.
  • Audit the standard of cleaning in the Linen room and report to contract cleaning supervisor any issues.
  • May from time to time provide cover to the Doctors On call bedrooms.
Check the following areas for used laundry / scrub suits and place in laundry bags for collection by Linen porters:-
  • Male & Female locker rooms underneath the Lecture theatres
  • Male & Female locker rooms in the staff changing & Catering facilities
  • Male & Female locker rooms in the Pathology block
  • Male & Female locker rooms in Radiology extension
  • Male & Female locker rooms in Operating Theatres
  • Lockers near the student welfare area near library
Cleaning Support duties:-
  • Provide support to Hygiene Services Managers to include cleaning audits and submit to TASK
  • Assist the Hygiene Services Managers with audit reports and results as and when required
  • Be familiar with the appropiate cleaning standards in relation to evaluation of infection control data, compliance with cleaning audits and the hospital’s infection prevention and control policies and procedures and HIQA standards.
  • Have clear understanding of the NHO cleaning manual, National Hygiene standards and National standards for the prevention and control of Hospital Acquired Infections.
  • Aware of the Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s), goals and objectives of the General Services Division in providing a quality service to patients, staff and visitors which is the cornerstone of our service
  • Undertake routine cleaning audits to include clinical and non-clinical areas in conjunction with the four risk categories assigned to the areas of Beaumont Hospital.
  • In conjunction with the Hygiene Services Manager prepare cleaning services reports on cleaning audits
  • Monitor the discharge team cleaning service to ensure cleaning standards are met
  • Ensure Cleaning bathroom checklists are up date and completed correctly
  • Keep public notice boards update on corridors and ensure they are clutter free.
Supervision Duties:
  • Monitor cleaning tasks and practices to ensure standards are met.
  • Ensure knowledge of cleaning staff is sufficient to perform duties / tasks correctly.
  • Ensure that cleaning equipment and consumables used are suitable (hoovers, j-cloths not in use, color coding cloths, etc).
  • Ensure that cleaning equipment is clean and in a good state of repair.
  • Ensure that all waste is removed promptly to the waste holding area for disposal and fire doors to same remain closed.
  • Monitor standards of cleaning in all public toilets, main concourse and lifts daily.
  • Ensure that the cleaning utility rooms are kept in a hygienic, neat and tidy condition.
  • Ensure the equipment and consumables are not stored in unauthorized areas.
  • Monitor contract cleaning sector manager’s roles and responsibilities.
  • Monitor the standard of window cleaning ensuring the quarterly service is completed prior to sign off.
  • Liaise with Contract Management staff reporting any issues identified on audits
  • Monitor and check supply of Feminine Hygiene Bins as per tender.

Other duties:
  • Report to Technical Services department any faults/repairs required throughout the Hospital.
  • Other duties as may be deemed necessary in the future based on service demands.
  • Perform such duties as appropriate to the office as required.
Personal:
  • Ensure compliance with mandatory training eg. Standard Precautions, Manual Handling, Fire Training, Open Disclosure and Children First.
  • Undertake such training as is made available or is deemed necessary to ensure efficient work practices.
  • Attend hospital courses deemed necessary to further enhance learning and development

Qualifications:
Mandatory:
  • Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc

(a) Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition:

(i) Have satisfactory experience as a Clerical Officer in the HSE, TUSLA, other statutory health agencies, or a body which provides services on behalf of the HSE under Section 38 of the Health Act 2004

Or
(ii) Have obtained a pass (Grade D) in at least five subjects from the approved list of subjects in the Department of Education Leaving Certificate Examination, including Mathematics and English or Irish1 . Candidates should have obtained at least Grade C or equivalent on higher level papers in three subjects in that examination.

Or
(iii) Have completed a relevant examination at a comparable standard in any equivalent examination in another jurisdiction

Or
(iv) Hold a comparable and relevant third level qualification of at least level 6 on the National Qualifications Framework maintained by Qualifications and Quality Ireland, (QQI).

Note1:
Candidates must achieve a pass in Ordinary or Higher level papers. A pass in a foundation level paper is not acceptable.
Candidates must have achieved these grades on the Leaving Certificate Established programme or the Leaving Certificate Vocational programme.
The Leaving Certification Applied Programme does not fulfil the eligibility criteria.

(b) Candidates must possess the requisite knowledge and ability, including a high standard of suitability, for the proper discharge of the office.

2. Age.
Age restriction shall only apply to a candidate where s/he is not classified as a new entrant (within the meaning of the Public Service Superannuation (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 2004). A candidate who is not classified as a new entrant must be under 65 years of age on the first day of the month in which the latest date for receiving completed application forms for the office occurs.
