Laboratory Assistant

We are currently recruiting for a Laboratory Assistant to join us as part of our ICBF project, for up to 2 to 6 months.
The Laboratory Assistant will be part of the Laboratory Operations Team, focusing on sample receipt, sample queries, sample assigning and sample preparation. The position will support all aspects of Laboratory operations and will collaborate with cross functional teams (internal and external) to ensure the highest quality genotype data is delivered to the customer and ensure that all activities are conducted in accordance with the Quality Management System (QMS).
Key Responsibilities:
· Receiving in high volumes of samples and inputting sample ID’s into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
· Recording sample numbers and types received on a daily basis.
· Segregating samples based on different priority categories defined by the customer.
· Preparing samples, primarily eartag and hair samples for DNA extraction in line with Standard Operating Procedures.
· To ensure all quality checks are conducted to the highest standard to ensure sample integrity throughout the sample receipt and sample preparation processes has been maintained.
· Processing samples in the necessary timeframe to ensure that required turnaround times for reporting results are achieved.
· Labelling, sorting, storing and retrieving samples when required.
· Identifying and reporting non-conforming work to line manager and support the necessary root cause investigation and close out of Technical Errors/Non-Conformances when required.
· Maintaining and suggesting improvements to sample management and storage systems
· Assisting and supporting with the training of other Laboratory staff in sample receipt and sample preparation procedures.
· Supporting the QMS by ensuring that working practice are in line with ISO17025 standards and/or other relevant accreditations.
· Adhering to all relevant health and safety regulations at all times.
· Completing all documentation in line with Good Documentation Practice.
· Monitoring stock levels.
Requirements:
· Variable Working Pattern across Monday – Sunday (potential shift work)
· Working Hours 35 hours per week
· Fulltime Laboratory Based
· Provide proof of having the Right to Work in Ireland
