Laboratory Support Operative

We are recruiting for a Laboratory Support Operative for our client based in Limerick City. This is a permanent part-time role, Shift patterns are 8am-2pm; 10am-4pm and 2pm-8pm.
Purpose of the Role:
To undertake duties as directed by the soft services supervisor and designated laboratory staff in support of the laboratory support services operations. Primary responsibilities include:
- Laboratory glassware – collection, cleaning, storage, stock management, inspection and return of laboratory glassware for laboratory operations.
- Waste management – collection and transfer of waste materials to appropriate recycling points, ensuring accurate and appropriate segregation of waste streams.
- Laboratory cleaning – Daily response to localised cleaning requirements (including but not limited to spill response) and general cleaning as required
- General cleaning – cleaning support to non-laboratory areas (administration, welfare, etc.) Daily cleaning routines for Canteen, Toilets blocks, locker rooms and associated reactive service support.
- Material movement support for Lab staff as required.
- Lab consumables stocking and storage support.
- Any other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Laboratory staff.
Health & Safety Purpose : To take a direct interest in the health and safety of yourself, your subordinates and others who may be affected by your work activities. Pay particular attention to understanding the risks and control measures associated with the role, specifically with respect to hazardous waste management, waste management, chemical exposure and material handling.
Main Duties & Responsibilities of the Role:
Cleaning Services
- Clean and sterilize laboratory equipment and glassware as detailed within Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Maintain a clean, safe and tidy laboratory and support areas during days through inspection, responses and reactive cleaning services
- Daily cleaning routines for Non-Lab areas i.e. Canteen, Toilets blocks, locker rooms and associated reactive service support.
- Complete external litter pick and cleaning services as necessary
- Keep live, accurate and compliant records of all cleaning activities, to support site quality management system requirements.
- Waste collection and transfer to appropriate recycling and storage points, ensuring accurate and appropriate segregation of waste streams as detailed within Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Maintain a clean, safe and tidy Waste Management areas during days through inspection, responses and reactive cleaning services.
- Daily documentation support for all waste streams for accurate waste KPIs and reporting
- Liaise with external third party waste contract to ensure seamless and compliant delivery of waste management services.
- Report any malfunctioning equipment and / or damaged glassware. Remove all damaged materials /glassware / equipment to quarantine area for inspection and assessment.
- Monitor and maintain stock levels of laboratory supplies (glassware) and cleaning reagents.
- Order new supplies and manage deliveries.
- Ensure all chemicals and reagents are properly labelled and stored according to safety regulations.
- Support lab consumable storage and stocking requirements
- Follow laboratory safety protocols and guidelines.
- Follow all method statements and risk assessments for all routine and non-routine tasks. Complete dynamic risk assessments where appropriate.
- Dispose of hazardous and non-hazardous waste according to safety standards.
- Keep work areas clean and organized to prevent accidents, incidents or near misses.
- Ensure the Lab Support Services are “Audit Ready” at all times.
- Maintain accurate records of cleaning tasks, waste management tasks and inventory.
- Update logs and databases as required.
- Complete all SOP training requirements as per the Laboratory Cleaning Operative Training Matrix and ensure accurate and up-to-date training records
- Assist with additional laboratory support cleaning tasks as directed.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Previous cleaning experience required, in a laboratory environment is desirable.

Pay: €14.30 per hour
