The Israel correspondent is an experienced journalist covering Israel and Gaza both online and in print.
They are expected to develop sources in various fields that add weight to their reporting. The team works across a variety of formats, including video, podcasts and live-blogs. The pace is fast so accuracy and speed under pressure is essential.
The correspondent will be expected to provide dispatch reporting from Israel, the West Bank and, when possible, Gaza. They will be able to demonstrate balance and sensitivity in a highly pressurised news environment.

Key responsibilities
- Be responsible for providing the Telegraph's coverage of Israel news, overseen by the foreign desk.
- Write breaking news stories and provide relevant longer form pieces, including analysis and features when required.
- Pursue opportunities to enter and report from Gaza, including via embeds with the Israel Defense Forces.
- Develop sources in the region and secure interviews with leading figures.
- Manage a difficult and intensely scrutinised environment.
- Focus on digital storytelling and the use of analytics and social media to develop and retain an online audience.
- Pitch ideas that fit with the Telegraph’s interests.
- React to the demands of a 24/7 online news environment.
- A readiness to travel at short notice will be expected.
- Work in close contact with both the foreign desk and other Middle East correspondent.
Essential
- Significant journalistic experience of writing for a newspaper or website.
- Deep knowledge of and curiosity about Israel.
- Proven ability in filing clean copy to strict deadlines.
- Interest in and knowledge of multimedia storytelling.
- Experience of working in conflict zones.
- Significant journalistic experience in the Middle East.
- Proficiency in Hebrew or Arabic would be advantageous.
