The Role:Equipment engineer

• Our site in Yonezawa Japan is seeking Equipment Engineer to develop and implement
  automation solutions to streamline processes, reduce costs, and enhance product quality.
  The role will involve designing, programming, testing, and maintaining automated systems
  across various stages of the manufacturing process.

In this role you will:
What are the expected outcomes? What must this role get done in order to meet your business
objectives? Define “what success will look like.

• Analyze manufacturing processes to identify opportunities for optimization and efficiency gains.
• Conduct risk assessments and implement safety measures to protect personnel and equipment.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify areas for automation within the manufacturing process.
• Create detailed technical specifications, schematics, and drawings for automation equipment.
• Stay updated on industry best practices, emerging technologies, and regulatory requirements related to automation in manufacturing.
• Manage outside Automation vendors to help drive manufacturing improvements. Define and integrate controls schemes.
• Write and debug code for PLCs, robotic arms, HMIs (Human-Machine Interfaces), and other control systems.

Traits we believe make a strong candidate:
What are the Position Specific Competencies? Define the skills/competencies necessary to do the
job. These should tie directly back to the purpose and outcome.

• Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline, preferably electrical, with 3-7 years of Controls Engineer related experience or equivalent years of experience with proven exceptional results.
• A strong knowledge of electrical or controls integration
• Proven experience in designing, programming, and implementing automation systems within a manufacturing environment.
• Experience in Project management.
• 5+ years experience in robotics or automation.
• Design and application knowledge of ergonomic and automation safety standards.
• Familiarity with CAD software is preferred. (e.g., Auto CAD, Solid Works).
• Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, including assembly, machining, and material handling.
• Familiarity with equipment design codes including NEC & NFPA 79 & international electrical standards
• Proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., KEYENCE), robotics, and industrial control systems.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• A motivated and self-directed team player with good interpersonal skills. Must have ability to reach out, communicate and influence personnel at all levels within the organization.
• English communication skill for technical conversations and emails.
