Managing Consultant - Technical and Process Safety (Senior Level)

The Role:
ERM Japan is seeking an experienced Technical Safety Managing Consultant who can play a key role in providing technical support to ensure process and functional safety throughout the entire lifecycle of critical client assets. Additionally, engage in business development activities. The key areas have been expanded to safety assessments for hydrogen, ammonia, and CCU projects beyond traditional oil & gas, and chemical sectors aimed at achieving a decarbonized society. Your role will be crucial in these areas. Ensure client satisfaction through effective project communication and the high quality of outputs to deliver exceptional client service.
The Ideal candidate:
Ideal candidates will have a minimum of 8 years of experience in process design or related plant engineering experience and safety management within oil & gas, chemical, or pharmaceutical industries, or an engineering company. Understanding of basic process design document is required, e.g. plot plan, process flow diagram, heat and material balance, P&ID, cause and effect, design philosophy. Additionally, practical experience with Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA), HSE management systems, and involvement in international FEED/EPC projects will be advantageous. You are expected to contribute to shape a better, sustainable future by bringing your technical capability in process safety, functional safety and risk-based process management approaches together with our clients. To be successful in this role, you have a client focused approach and is an excellent communicator, both verbally and in writing.
Responsibilities & tasks (not limited to)

Support the safety assessment of equipment, including hazard identification, risk assessment, determination of preventive and mitigative measures, and ALARP demonstration. Specific tasks may include:
- Facilitating HAZID, HAZOP/LOPA workshops
- Facilitating/Conducting Bow Tie analysis
- SIL Classification/Verification
- Performing Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA) using DNV Safeti
- ALARP Demonstration
- Developing Safety Case document from scratch
- Provide risk-based asset management support through RAM (Reliability, Availability, and Maintainability) studies together with related studies, e.g. RCM (Reliability Centered Maintenance)
- Assist in the development and improvement of Process Safety Management (PSM) systems.
- Deliver technical risk training tailored to client needs.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
- 8+ years of experience in process design and safety management within oil&gas, chemical, or pharmaceutical industries, or an engineering company.
- Frontline diagnostic capabilities identifying at risk conditions and situations in the field in high hazard industries.
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting, with guidance and direction. Ability to be adaptable, deal with ambiguity, and flexible to changing situations, able to think outside the box, and to identify and respond rapidly to safety issues in field locations.
- Professionally attentive with an understanding of business acumen, business strategies and a desire for team collaboration
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, MS Office computer, and analytical skills; experienced in writing technical reports.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively.
- Strong work ethic with a passion to learn, grow, and thrive.
