BEHAVIOR SPECIALIST CONSULTANT (CYP) NF-04 RFT WWH (OPEN UNTIL FILLED)

Duties
The incumbent operates independently with minimum supervision toward the overall objectives of the program. The Behavior Specialist Consultant works proactively to build the capacity of families and direct care Professionals in both preventing and responding to challenging behaviors and reactively in formulating appropriate responses to challenging behaviors. A majority of the position duties are performed within the CYP to (1) provide CYP with observations and recommendations regarding social-emotional environments and assist in identifying participants (children and youth) who require special assistance for behavior, social-emotional, or developmental needs, (2) help CYP teams implement curricula regarding conflict resolution, emotional regulation, and social skills development (3) lead and facilitate the USMC Behavior Support Process as a member of the Accommodations Collaboration Team (ACT) and the Inclusion Action Team (IAT), (4) assist staff in positive behavior guidance and promoting optimal social-emotional development. The CYP responsibilities are grouped into categories, including classroom and program support, non-clinical assessment, training, compliance, and additional responsibilities. Each is described below.
CLASSROOM/PROGRAM SUPPORT
Serves as a liaison with mental health providers and special education systems in the community, as applicable. Assists CYP Professionals to facilitate and maintain calming and predictable classroom environments within the program. Assists in preventing challenging behaviors by teaching the Pyramid Model and the use of pyramid strategies. Provides a climate that promotes positive social-emotional development. Role models appropriate strategies for responding to participant behavior, including how to use redirection and de-escalation strategies effectively. Supports the implementation of social-emotional and self-regulation curriculum and activities. Establishes and maintains ongoing supportive relationships with CYP Professionals to enhance interactions with the children and parents they serve. Provides classroom and Family Child Care (FCC) home observations and recommendations regarding social-emotional environments to assist in identifying children who require special assistance for behavior, emotional, or developmental needs. Provides assistance to the Exceptional Family Member Program and the School Liaison Program as needed or upon request.
NON-CLINICAL ASSESSMENT
Implements appropriate screening mechanisms for behavior and social emotional needs. Assists direct care Professionals in recognizing and responding appropriately to participants displaying challenging or unsafe behaviors. Provides appropriate resources and referrals to counseling services as needed. Observes in program settings throughout all hours of operation to assess CYP Professionals competency and direct training needs for groups and/or individuals. Ensures Behavior Tracking Tools (BTT) are applied, providing training and coaching as needed. Provides observation of specific children and develops written support strategies utilizing a team approach to assist CYP Professionals in positive behavior support and promoting optimal social-emotional development. Completes Observation & Debrief Tools, provides feedback to CYP Professionals, and makes recommendations to the Director. Facilitates team meetings, including team meetings with families to develop Behavior Support Plans. Assists in and supports the development and implementation of parent education programs. Maintains documentation related to non-clinical assessments, observations, and behavior support plans.

Qualifications
(1) A Master's degree (preferred) in Psychology, Sociology, Human Services, or Behavioral Science or a related field of study AND 2 years of Professional experience working with children and/or youth. Education or training focused on Behavior Intervention is required.
OR
(2) A 4-year degree in Psychology, Sociology, Human Services, or Behavioral Science or related field of study AND 3 years of full-time experience working with children and/or youth. Education or training focused on Behavior Intervention is required.
Must be able to obtain and maintain TIER-1 Child Care (CNACI) background checks which are required for positions that involve working with children under 18 years of age. Must pass a pre-employment physical and annual physicals thereafter, provide evidence of immunization and be free from communicable disease. Must complete all Do D training requirements within the specified time including orientation, initial, and annual ongoing training requirements, and required certifications, if any. Must maintain current CPR and First Aid certifications. May be required to obtain a government driver's license. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, and possess strong interpersonal communication skills. Knowledge of functional behavior assessment, child development, disability law, early intervention and special education, positive behavior intervention and support (PBIS), trauma-informed practices, behavior support plans, crisis intervention and/or mediation, administrative practices and organizational procedures common to child development and/or special education programs. Skilled in oral and written communication.
