Job Description: Materials Engineer (Automotive Manufacturing)

Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Materials Engineer to join our automotive manufacturing team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in materials science and engineering, with specific expertise in selecting, testing, and improving materials for automotive applications. This role involves working closely with design, production, and quality teams to ensure the materials used in our vehicles meet the highest standards for performance, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities:
1) Material Selection:
Identify and recommend suitable materials for various automotive components, taking into consideration performance, durability, cost, and manufacturing processes.
2) Testing and Analysis:
Conduct rigorous testing and analysis of materials, including mechanical, thermal, and chemical properties, to ensure they meet the required specifications and standards.
3) Process Optimization:
Collaborate with production teams to optimize manufacturing processes, improving material usage, reducing waste, and ensuring consistent quality.
4) Research and Development:
Stay updated with the latest advancements in materials science and automotive technology, and apply this knowledge to develop innovative solutions for new products.
5) Quality Assurance:
Work closely with the quality assurance team to address any material-related issues, including failure analysis and root cause investigation.
6) Supplier Collaboration:
Liaise with material suppliers to ensure the availability of high-quality materials, and evaluate new suppliers as needed.
7) Cost Management:
Monitor and manage the costs associated with materials, seeking opportunities to reduce expenses without compromising quality or performance.
8) Documentation:
Prepare detailed reports, technical documentation, and specifications related to material selection and testing.
9) Compliance:
Ensure all materials and processes comply with relevant automotive industry standards and regulations.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or a related field from a reputable university. Preferably from Universiti Malaysia Perlis (Uni MAP), International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM/UIA), or Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).
Experience:
Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in materials engineering, preferably within the automotive industry.
Technical Skills:
Strong understanding of material properties, manufacturing processes, and testing methodologies specific to automotive applications.
Software Proficiency: Familiarity with material analysis software and CAD tools.
Communication Skills:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly and effectively.
Problem-Solving:
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to addressing challenges.
Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Materials Science or a related field.
- Experience with advanced materials such as composites, high-strength steels, or lightweight alloys.
- Familiarity with automotive industry standards and regulations, such as ISO/TS 16949, SAE standards, and REACH.
