Imaging Data Engineer @ Health-RI Limburg

Major duties:
- Mission: Enable FAIR imaging data for secondary use;
- Goal: Liberate imaging data and make it available for reuse;
- Join various imaging data projects and teams and interact with internal and external parties in research, society, and commercial organizations;
- Guide and support imaging data requests at clinical partners including: ethical approval process, privacy assessments, security assessments, legal agreement review and approval, and managerial approval;
- Design, document, implement and maintain efficient data capture, transfer and reuse processes using standard methodologies and good practices;
- Collaborative design and implement ETL processes and data processing pipelines including: data capturing, acquisition, cleaning, integration, quality testing, indexing, and co-developing FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) data infrastructures.
Requirements / Your Profile
We require:
- MSc degree (or higher) in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, (Bio)medical Engineering, Data Science, or a related field;
- Demonstrated experience in handling and processing large-scale imaging datasets;
- Experience with imaging modalities such as MRI, CT, X-ray, ultrasound, or microscopy.
- Proficiency in Python/C++/Java;
- Familiarity with SQL and No SQL databases, as well as large storage solutions/data lakes;
- Passion for open and reusable (FAIR) data;
- Proficiency in using imaging software such as XNAT;
- Knowledge of common hospital information systems in Dutch health care organizations;
- Knowledge of relevant regulations associated with secondary data use (e.g. consent, privacy, GDPR, WBSO);
- Proficiency in common office tools (e.g. Outlook, Teams, Word);
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a high degree of professionalism;
- Fluent in Dutch (at least B2);
- Fluent in English (better than IELTS 7, CEFR C1, or equivalent) and have strong verbal and written communications skills.
Additional preferences:
- A Ph D degree in a relevant field can be advantageous;
- Experience in academic or industrial research settings;
- Experience with open EHR and OMOP;
- Experience with HL7 standards, especially FHIR;
- Experience with Dutch Healthcare standards like ZIBs;
- Experience working with Agile/Scrum methodology.
What we offer
As an Imaging data engineer @ Health-RI Limburg at the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences, you will be employed by the most international university in the Netherlands, located in the beautiful city of Maastricht. In addition, we offer you:
- Good employment conditions. The position is graded in scale 9 - 11 according to UFO profile developer ICT, with corresponding salary based on experience ranging from €3502,00 and €6148,00 gross per month (based on a full-time employment of 38 hours per week). In addition to the monthly salary, an 8.0% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus apply.
- An employment contract for a period of 12 months with a scope of 0.6 to 1.0 FTE. Upon proven suitability, the employment contract will be converted to an indefinite contract.
- At Maastricht University, the well-being of our employees is of utmost importance, we offer flexible working hours and the possibility to work partly from home if the nature of your position allows it. You will receive a monthly commuting and internet allowance for this. If you work full-time, you will be entitled to 29 vacation days and 4 additional public holidays per year, namely carnival Monday, carnival Tuesday, Good Friday, and Liberation Day. If you choose to accumulate compensation hours, an additional 12 days will be added. Furthermore, you can personalize your employment conditions through a collective labor agreement (CAO) choice model.

At the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences (FHML), everything revolves around healthy living. FHML, which is the largest faculty of Maastricht University, is formed by an (inter)national community of employees and students. The multidisciplinary research of the FHML focuses on a number of carefully chosen topical current themes. Data Hub provides various services related to data management in (medical) research. We are a cross-organizational community within Maastricht UMC+ and work on FAIR data management solutions for researchers from both the academic hospital and the university. Data Hub develops and manages an institutional repository for research data and enables researchers to store and retrieve scientific data in a sustainable way.
