Analyst x 2 – Housing and Urban Growth Team

Wellington

FULL TIME

September 11, 2024

Are you a talented Analyst looking to take the next step in your career?
This is an exceptional opportunity for two skilled and motivated Analysts to join the Housing and Urban Growth Team and play an integral role in our advice to Ministers during a critical time of change in the way central government supports housing outcomes.
Quality housing is a key component of supporting New Zealander's living standards and wellbeing, with deep social, economic, environmental, and fiscal implications. Joining our team will see you working in a collaborative environment where your skills will help shape a cross-government effort to improve the housing and urban growth system and address long-standing housing affordability and availability issues.
Mō mātou | About Us
At The Treasury Te Tai Ōhanga we're creating a better future for New Zealand and everyone who calls our amazing country home. We're the Government's economic and financial advisor, working hard to raise the standard of living for everyone in Aotearoa, now and in the future.
Our talented people bring their diverse backgrounds and experiences to tackling New Zealand's biggest and most inter-connected issues. Every day, they are influencing, advising, and supporting Ministers, Crown CEOs and Government decision-makers to shape our country's collective tomorrow.
Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the Role
As a member of the Housing and Urban Growth Team you will support the Government's agenda by advising on investments in the Housing and Building and Construction portfolios to ensure that the government is maximising value for money.
You will work closely with colleagues within the Treasury and across the public service to analyse financial and fiscal information, assess housing proposals through a social investment lens, and advise how best to deliver improved outcomes that also support the Crown's short-, medium-, and long-term economic and financial stability. This work will give you the opportunity to:
*
  • Gain exposure to high-profile strategic investment programmes and initiatives;
  • Engage and advise Ministers and senior officials across the public sector;
  • Build relationship management skills by working collaboratively with a range of partners (in particular the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development);
  • Develop your analytical skills by working alongside and learning from experienced advisors of all levels.
Appointing salary for these roles will be between $90,041 and $105,930 per annum. Appointment within the salary range will depend on skills and experience.
Ō pūmanawa | About You
We are committed to employing people, with a wide range of academic, cultural and social backgrounds and experiences, who represent the New Zealand community we serve.
This type of work requires people who are passionate about making a difference through providing free and frank advice based on sound and well-reasoned analysis. You will also bring to the role the ability to think strategically across multiple sectors given the critical linkages housing has with other priority areas such as infrastructure.
We are seeking candidates with a public sector/policy background who are confident working with numbers and evidence to develop well-rounded advice. Experience with the housing sector, public finance policy, benefit cost analysis, Crown entities, and/or Budget processes would be an advantage but is not essential.
If you know how to use your analytical, communication, and relationship skills to navigate complex policy problems, then we would like to hear from you.
Ko ngā hua | What We Offer
This is an important job and that's why we'll do all we can to support your success. Flexible work arrangements and five weeks annual leave, along with a range of other health and wellbeing initiatives, will help you enjoy a positive work/life balance. Our numerous social events, sports teams and employee networks will enable you to connect and have fun.
The wharenui, at the heart of our workplace, embodies our commitment to diversity and making this an inclusive place that will welcome the unique experiences and perspectives you bring to our collaborative team culture.
We'll prioritise your development, offering you opportunities to train and advance your chosen career. The work will stimulate and challenge you, helping you learn, grow and build valuable experience and skills.
