Pay range: $29.66 to $32 per hour based on experience
Queenstown Tiffin Service is looking to hire an experienced chef who can take our business to the next level.
About us: Queenstown Tiffin services is a small family business which is growing very fast and is looking for an experienced chef to help us meet our growth plans. At the moment the business is operating from a home kitchen with council permission, and we are looking for someone who is able to take us to the next level of business success. We started this business without any professional knowledge or experience as a chef and now the time has come for us to take the business to the next level. We are looking for an experienced chef to lead our business to become a leading brand in catering and tiffin services in the region.
About the role: The role of chef is crucial for the growth of our business and typically you would be responsible for following duties:
  • Planning the service offerings for catering services for B2B sales as well as B2C sales.
  • Planning traditional menus for home style Indian food, Indian street food, as well as various Indian regional cuisines.
  • Estimating food ingredient costs and labour costs, determining costs for various dishes and meal plans. Making recommendations for selling prices.
  • Placing orders for all required food ingredients and ensuring that the economic order quantities are ordered at economic reordering points to minimise waste or excess inventory and ensuring continuous supply of ingredients.
  • Ensuring that the dishes are prepared as per the food control plan and meet the required quality standard and presentation. Ensuring proper plating and presentation for B2C customers and proper presentation and packaging for B2B bulk orders and catering orders.
  • Recommending staffing needs for the kitchen including need to hire additional cooks, kitchen hands and advising the business owners as necessary.
  • Discussing any food allergies, dietary requirements with end customers and managers representing corporate clients.
  • Ensuring that all aspects of food control plan are followed and the business is compliant with all legal regulations including food safety, hygiene, storage and kitchen staff training.
  • Ensuring that meals are prepared in time for deliveries.
To be successful in the role:
  • Ideally you would have a minimum of 3 years of experience as a chef in a catering set up or a restaurant. Alternatively, we will also consider someone with a Level -5 diploma in a relevant field.
  • Passion for traditional Indian home style cooking.
  • Ability to cook meals in a simple and authentic style, focusing on traditional flavors and techniques.
  • Strong knowledge of Indian spices, ingredients, and cooking methods.
  • Must be reliable, efficient, and organized in the kitchen. Willingness to improvise and work in a home kitchen set up until we move into a new premises as our business grows.
