Te Kuratini Tuwhera, Open Polytechnic, is Aotearoa New Zealand's leading distance and online learning provider. We're looking for an Academic Staff Member who will take on the responsibility of Degree Lead Māori, to join our Bachelor of Social Work team on a permanent basis. This is a full time position working 37.5 hours a week.

He ngākaunui tōu ki te whāngai te māramatanga o ngā mātāpono o te Tiriti o Waitangi ki te marea, ahakoa nō hea te tangata, ahakoa ko wai te tangata.
This role would suit someone with a deep commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, who is passionate about integrating Māori values and perspectives into education. The ideal candidate will be an experienced social work practitioner, have an excellent level of te reo Māori, and be skilled in fostering inclusive learning environments that empower ākonga. You should be capable of leading academic initiatives that honour Māori ways of learning and support the success of all students.
Mō te tūnga | About the role:
You will need to be capable in:
  • Teaching courses in the Open Distance Flexible Learning (ODFL) modality utilising interactive technology and best practice professional standards for online distance learning
  • Providing ākonga with targeted and specific support that develops their knowledge and understanding of the subject matter
  • Fostering meaningful connections between Te Kura Wānanga and academic delivery kaimahi, ensuring the integration of Māori values, knowledge, and perspectives throughout the delivery of our programmes
  • Advocating for policies and practices that uphold the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, safeguarding the rights, wellbeing and success of ākonga Māori within our organization
  • Taking leadership in programme development, changes and evaluation, ensuring programmes honour Māori ways of learning and empower ākonga Māori to engage and achieve academic success.

We're looking for someone who has:
  • A demonstrated commitment to Te Tiriti O Waitangi, confident in the use of te reo Māori me ōna tikanga, and competent in facilitating in Māori spaces of engagement
  • A relevant degree at Masters level or higher in social work or a social work Bachelor degree with demonstrable, relevant and suitable professional experience
  • A current Practicing Certificate issued by the Social Workers Registration Board
