About the Role:
As a Design Manager (reporting to the General Manager) you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of our Detailing and Estimating teams. This is a critical leadership position responsible for overseeing the design processes, quality control, and team development. Your work will directly impact the accuracy and efficiency of our operations. The Design Manager will be responsible for:
- Technical Assessment: Review and assess the technical information provided for detailing jobs, ensuring plans and acceptance sheets are accurate. Communicate with builders to clarify project details and reduce interruptions for the Detailing team. Oversee peer reviews of plans and acceptance sheets, ensuring continuous improvement in the detailing process. Develop and monitor KPIs for the Detailing team, focusing on error reduction and efficiency.
- Detailing, Estimating, and Consents: Collaborate with the Schedule Manager to prioritize detailing tasks based on project needs. Delegate tasks within the Detailing and Estimating teams, ensuring a balanced workload. Coordinate price reviews and present recommendations to the General Manager for approval. Manage remedial processes, aiming to minimize errors and associated costs.
- Quality Control: Conduct checks on all detailed work to identify errors, inconsistencies, and areas for improvement. Provide feedback and training to Detailers to standardize and improve detailing practices.
- People Management: Conducting performance reviews, developing training plans, managing attendance, and addressing disciplinary issues.

In Addition to the Above, You Will Need
- Experience in leading and managing a team, preferably within the building / construction industry
- Proven experience in an Estimating or Quantity Surveying role within the building industry.
- In-depth knowledge of NZS 3604: 2011 and construction methodologies.
- Familiarity with Mitek software and the building supplies sector.
- Solid understanding of frame and truss manufacturing, with experience in the New Zealand building market.
- Experience with Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement practices.
- Full New Zealand Class 1 driver’s license.
