The Director Health, Safety & Security Assurance is a critical leadership role for the Ministry, given our prioritisation of the health and safety of our people, and the members of the public who visit our premises.
This role advises the Ministry's Strategic Leadership Team on the vision and strategic direction for health and safety, in line with the Ministry's risk appetite, and legislative obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015.
The role provides high quality advice and assurance to support the Strategic Leadership Team's fulfilment of their obligations under the Health & Safety at Work Act and all other legislative requirements relating to health, safety, and wellbeing.
The Director Health, Safety & Security Assurance leads the assurance and management of health and safety risk and associated controls across the Ministry, including assuring operational security processes at our courthouses.
This is a pivotal collaboration and influencing role across the Ministry. You will be responsible for ensuring excellent working relationships across all teams with responsibilities for health, safety and security assurance and risk management. You will also role model and drive a Ministry-wide culture that embraces industry good practice and the ongoing maturing of the Ministry's approach to health and safety.

Ō pūkenga/Skills and Experience
To be successful in this position, you must have a valid New Zealand Government security clearance at TOP SECRET level, as well as:

  • Experience in leading a health and safety function within a large and complex organisation, and embedding health and safety practice within frontline operations.
  • Deep experience working with, and being a trusted health and safety advisor to, executive teams.
  • Strong senior leadership experience including people management, coaching and capability development.
  • Deep experience in strategic and operational business planning and change management.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in industry good practice health and safety maturity frameworks, critical risk identification and management, governance reporting and assurance practice.
  • Proven experience in internal and external stakeholder management coupled with strong influencing skills.
  • A reputation for sound judgement, political nous and implementable advice.

Utu ā-tau/Salary
The appointing salary for this role will be between $175,308 and $226,440 based on skills and experience.
