BNZ

Diversity & Inclusion Lead

Auckland

FULL TIME

August 26, 2024

Ko mātou tēnei | This is Us
Here at BNZ, it's about more than just banking. We work together in an agile, energising environment to create innovative solutions though our promise 'If you can imagine a better future, let's find a way'.
This tūranga (role) sits within a small tīma (team) in our People & Culture business unit. While the tīma is small, our influence and reach across the organisation is large and includes two people responsible for BNZ's Māori Colleague Strategy.
In this tūranga you will have a chance to make a real difference for colleagues across BNZ. You will have an opportunity to inform BNZ's Diversity and Inclusion strategy and support delivery of the agreed D&I priorities to provide a colleague experience where diversity and inclusion is part of who we are. Our D&I Council is chaired by the CEO and the tūranga will give you an opportunity to work across all levels of the organisation.
BNZ is a fantastic place to work, with great benefits - including six week's annual leave, health and life insurance, generous parental leave policies, a real commitment to inclusion and a consistent focus on colleague wellbeing.
This is an Auckland based hybrid position, with two days where you can work flexibly. Tuesday is the tīma anchor day in the office.
Mō te Tūranga | About the Tūranga
We spoke with the Head of People Programme Delivery (who you'd report to), who let us know the following about the tūranga:
What are five day-to-day tasks the D & I Lead is responsible for?
  • Communicating/Influencing - within a day the person in this tūranga could be communicating with our CEO, reviewing policies, or speaking with our D&I working groups.
  • Reporting - Understanding our data, proposing key metrics and reporting on our progress both internally and externally.
  • Delivering presentations - Supporting our leaders to ensure BNZ continues to be an inclusive organisation, creating, curating, and presenting information to a variety of audiences.
  • Planning - Planning, reporting, and prioritising your own activities, as well as supporting our D&I working groups to plan their initiatives.
  • Programme administration - coordinating some of our key programmes, such as our Returning with Confidence programme for new parents returning to the workforce.
What is the tīma culture and environment like?
We are a small tīma that works closely with our colleagues across the People & Culture business unit, and with D&I advocates and working groups across the bank. We are a tīma with big ambitions, we deliver, and we carry BNZ's focus on our Mātāpono, our values, into all our mahi.
What will the candidate be working on now and into the next year?
Initially you will be working on setting our Inclusion priorities for the coming year, alongside our D&I stakeholders and within the context of BNZ's strategic ambition. This tūranga also runs a few of our core diversity and inclusion programmes, creates and presents information and resources to a variety of audiences, and supports initiatives designed and delivered by our amazing D&I working groups.
What is the most exciting thing about this opportunity?
Everything! This is such an exciting tūranga that can make a big difference to all BNZers!
What is the most challenging thing about this opportunity?
The most challenging aspect is that there is just one of you, and a lot of ways you could spend your time! We are looking for someone who is organised, can identify where they will have the most impact and prioritise those elements, and who can influence others to drive better outcomes for BNZ.
What attributes will this person display in order to be successful in this tūranga?
We are looking for someone with excellent knowledge of diversity and inclusion, who can work at both a strategic level and in the detail. Someone with the ability to listen, to communicate at all levels of the organisation, and to articulate BNZ's ambitions around diversity and inclusion within the context of BNZ's strategic ambition. To achieve all of this, the successful candidate will have excellent programme management, planning and prioritisation skills.
Nau Mai ki te Pēke o Aotearoa | Come to the Bank of New Zealand
If you are keen to join a fun organisation where we are proud of our culture and how we are helping New Zealander's to 'Find their way', then please review the Job Description for more details on the tūranga. Show your interest by submitting your application - we can't wait to read it.
Applications for this vacancy will close Monday 9 September at 1155pm.
