POSITION SUMMARY - This position is based in New Zealand, Australia, Samoa, Fiji, Cambodia
The Editorial Manager is responsible for media strategy and outcomes for Conservation International Asia Pacific (CIAP). Working with program leads, executive leadership, and in close collaboration with the CI Global Brand and Communications team, and under the support and supervision of the Senior Director of Communications, Asia Pacific, this role is focused on optimizing media and messaging outcomes for our region’s 12 Asia Pacific Country Programs, and regionally on key strategic areas.
The Editorial Manager is a media strategist who develops and leads CI Asia Pacific’s media strategy and initiatives, designing and executing comprehensive media plans, and supporting integrated communications strategies, at national, regional, and global levels.
The Manager is an expert writer who, in addition to managing media efforts is responsible for developing engaging and compelling editorial content for CIAP across a wide range of mediums and platforms ranging from websites to marketing materials.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develops and leads CI Asia Pacific’s media strategy.
- Develop pitches, mine stories, and elevate CIAP’s narratives proactively.
- Story mining amongst our country programs to develop earned media pitches and opportunities for regional and global press.
- Develops comprehensive media plans for earned, paid, and owned media, digital strategies, and public engagement in priority content.
- Specialist support for CI AP country program media initiatives to secure media coverage.
- Manage media relations and press inquiries
- Liaise with the CI global media team and regional counterparts to ensure alignment and cohesive efforts.
- Editorial lead for drafting press releases, messaging documents, talking points, speech notes, and web content.
- Track, monitor, and report on CIAP’s media and content efforts, ensuring effective measurement and evaluation.
- Contribute to monthly regional communications reports and produce quarterly editorial products highlighting CIAP’s progress and outcomes.
- Manage consultants, contractors, and vendors for strategic communications projects.
- Build relationships with key organizations and stakeholders to optimize media outcomes for CIAP including journalists.
- Train and mentor staff and partners on media strategy and best practices.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Regular office work with a few trips to field countries, events, and projects
- Guidance on flexible work arrangements will be shared during the interview process.
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or related fields.
- 4 to 6 years of professional experience as a journalist, or in relevant media, marketing, or advertising. Experience in strategic communications or related areas.
- Professional experience working with Asia Pacific media outlets.
- Skilled in working with journalists, pitching stories, and handling inquiries.
- Strong writing and editorial skills,
- Proactive storyteller, versed in narrative creation and identifying news angles and opportunities
- Experience in multinational and multicultural organizations.
- Strong organizational skills with project management expertise.
- Familiarity with social media management and content planning.
- Collaborative team player with stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience in crisis communications and media relations.
- Established contacts with regional and international media outlets.
