About the Role:
Join Five Star Beef as a Leading Hand - Feedbunk / Stockperson based at our Wakanui Feedlot, approximately 20 minutes from Ashburton. This is a full-time position reporting to our Livestock Manager.
The primary focus of this position is to oversee feed allocation to maximise intakes and growth rates of cattle as well as provide management and care of livestock.
This role will suit someone who understands how to apply low stress animal handing techniques at all times. The candidate must enjoy problem solving and thinking on their feet while always implementing the correct health and safety practices.
Duties and Responsibilities will include but won't be limited to:

• Carry out bunk reading and Feed Allocation as part of a roster which includes weekends
• Ensuring there is a high focus on bunk hygiene, health and growth rates
• Maintain a working knowledge of animal welfare regulations
• Daily pen checking - checking cattle health, getting cattle on their feet, checking water troughs and checking for broken wires/railing/gates and fixing
• Completing cattle arrival, departure and processing paperwork
• General Feedlot housekeeping
• Operating machinery including JCB Telehandler and Tractor/Trailer/Box scraper, skid steer
• Participate in training throughout the feedlot to build competency in various roles
• Participate in on and off-site training
• Instil work practices and processes that align to the direction of Work Safe Home Safe.

About You:

• Experience with feeding livestock and following feeding plans preferred
• Physically fit
• Experience with care and supervision of cattle
• Effective communicator and team player with well-developed interpersonal skills
• Knowledge of animal welfare regulations
