Te āheinga The opportunity

Due to an internal promotion, we are excited to announce an opportunity within our Corporate Innovation Group. We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Financial Accountant – Chartered Accountant to join our dynamic team.

In this role, you will be a key player in our financial reporting activities, including overseeing the financial performance of Council and council controlled organisations (CCO’s). Your responsibilities will include managing balance sheet reconciliations, handling taxation queries and completing statistics returns. You will be supporting the Financial Services Lead in delivering complex and comprehensive financial accounting and reporting activities of Council, including the preparation of the Annual Report.

You will also play a critical role in maintaining robust internal audit controls, ensuring compliance with financial, taxation and accounting policies and procedures across the organisation.

Tino takohanga Key responsibilities

Support the Financial Services Lead in the delivery of financial accounting and reporting function.
Support the Financial Services Lead in the delivery of the Annual Report.
Prepare GST, FBT and taxation returns, and statistics returns.
Prepare reconciliations and journals required for month end reporting.
Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports in collaboration with other Finance team members.
Prepare financial statements for Council’s CCO’s.
Assist in the development of Council’s accounting policies, practices, systems and documentation.
Ensure the integrity of the General ledger, including reconciliations and other key systems which integrate to the GL.
Actively ensure that legislative and financial requirements and Council policies and procedures are fulfilled, particularly in relation to all key relevant legislation and accounting standards.
Perform internal audit controls, ensuring financial internal controls are robust.
Prepare financial reports to be presented at meetings.

Ngā tino pūkenga me ngā wheako Essential skills and experience

Accounting qualification.
Experience in report writing.
Experience in the preparation of financial accounts.
Excellent working knowledge of New Zealand accounting standards and taxation.
A graduate with 3-5 years’ experience and with a Chartered Accountants qualification or international equivalent.
