Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
Kickstart your career in the Datums Squad! You will help maintain New Zealand's geodetic system, including the NZGD2000 and NZVD2016 datums, the Positio NZ GNSS network, and the critical infrastructure of ground marks and trig beacons.
Now is an exciting time to join Location Information. With our new Agile structure, you will have the opportunity to work across traditional domains of geodesy, hydrography, topography and property through the lens of data, technology, products, and services value streams.
The Datums Squad's core work includes maintaining nationally consistent coordinates for geodetic marks and commissioning new infrastructure throughout the country. As South PAN comes fully online and ubiquitous positioning becomes a reality, our squad is developing to meet New Zealand's future needs.
We have an exciting open-term entry-level role available in the Datums Squad, suitable for a recent graduate or someone planning to graduate in the next 6 months. In this role, you will be well-supported as you gain wide experience across the squad duties including:

  • Developing operational geophysical models and contributing to innovative solutions in geodesy
  • Analysing geodetic survey data and incorporating it into the Geodetic Database
  • Contributing to the maintenance and enhancement of New Zealand's survey control and geodetic systems
  • Assisting with geodetic fieldwork
  • Providing geodetic system operational advice to customers
He pūkenga tou - Skills & Experience

  • Hold (or be in the final year of) a suitable tertiary qualification (such as: Geophysics, Geology, Survey, or Mathematics).
  • Experience with geodetic surveying techniques and tools, including GNSS.
  • Ability to develop and work with geophysical models.
  • Enthusiasm for expanding your knowledge of New Zealand's geodetic system.
  • You will have good communication skills and a willingness to work collaboratively as part of a small team, across Toitū Te Whenua LINZ and with customers.
Highly desirable:
  • Familiarity with least squares analysis, including use of the SNAP software.
  • Willingness to participate in occasional field work
  • Valid driver's license
The annual salary range for this role is: $77,000 – 90,500

As an inclusive and supportive employer, we value difference and want to encourage anyone interested to apply, regardless of whether you tick all the boxes or not. As an organisation we embrace diversity, encourage work life balance and have a flexible approach to the way we work which means you will quickly feel connected and valued.
