About the Role
The Integrated Primary Mental Health and Addiction (IPMHA) model provides easy access to mental wellbeing support through it being available in General Practice sites across the country.
The key purpose of the Health Improvement Practitioner (HIP) is to work within general practice as a regular team member. To provide brief, evidence based behavioural interventions to individuals, groups and families/whanau for both mental health and physical health conditions in people of all ages using the IPMHA model.
As a registered healthcare professional, the successful applicant will have a background in mental health and addiction and be motivated to provide interventions to support people to thrive and flourish in alignment of their values. The ability to work autonomously and be part a multidisciplinary team contributing to health outcomes is also key to the success of this role.
Specific Health Improvement Practitioner training will be given as part of this role.
About the Team/Service/ Location
The Health Improvement Practitioner is based in Primary Care working collaboratively within the general Practice Teams as an integrated team member.
This is a permanent, part-time role, covering the South Canterbury region (this could include Twizel, Geraldine, Timaru, Pleasant Point, Temuka and Waimate). We are open to having more than one person fill this 0.5 FTE vacancy and we ask you to please detail your preferred working hours/FTE in your application.
About you
- A registered health professional with recent extensive clinical experience within Mental Health and Addictions service.
- Professionally registered in NZ as per legislative requirements relevant to your profession and hold a current APC.
- A current full driver’s license is essential given the community facing nature of the role.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal are required to carry out the intervention sessions and the associated reporting.
- Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth.
- Experience in projects / initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.
