Te Tūranga | About the Role:
Are you passionate about innovation and eager to gain hands-on experience in new product development? Our Innovation Summer Internship offers a unique opportunity for a student to work closely with our Innovation Team on exciting projects that shape the future of our products. This internship will last for 10 weeks across the Summer break, likely from October/November until mid-late January.
The internship’s primary focus will be on seeing you deliver a project related to value-add red meat products, which will give you the chance to engage in a broad range of NPD processes. You’ll work through key stages from concept to commercialization, gaining valuable insights into how products are developed from the ground up, and be mentored along the way by our team of Innovation experts.


As an Innovation Intern, you will be involved in:

• Bench-top work and formulation: Create and refine new product formulations.
• Commercial trials: Assist in running trials to test products at a larger scale.
• Sensory analysis and testing: Coordinate and compile results from tasting events to evaluate product quality.
• Investigation into scale-up technologies and manufacturing capabilities: Explore how to bring new products from prototype to full-scale production.

Silver Fern Farms has successfully run several Innovation Internships – we’ve found that they’re a great way for people new to the industry to deliver rewarding work, and to discover aspects of Innovation that you really connect with.
This internship will have you working from our two Dunedin-based office locations.
We are flexible on internship timings and are able to adapt to fit around semester break times and existing summer commitments.


Ōu Pūkenga | About You:
You’re a dynamic and creative person with a keen interest in innovation and product development, particularly in the food industry. You’re likely on the verge of completing a food science degree, or a degree in a related field.
You’ll be looking for an opportunity to thrive in a team environment, are looking to get “hands on” with some real experience, and wanting to deliver work that contributes to real-world success.
