The Role
As an Irrigation Technician, you'll be the backbone of our irrigation operations, working alongside the Irrigation Specialist to maintain and optimize over 72 pivots across our farms. This role is crucial to achieving top farm productivity while protecting the environment for generations to come.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Keep systems running smoothly: Conduct preventative and winter maintenance to ensure irrigation systems are always ready for action.
- Problem-solve with precision: Respond to breakdowns promptly and troubleshoot issues to minimize disruptions during the irrigation season.
- Optimize water use: Collaborate with farm managers to implement cutting-edge techniques like Variable Rate Irrigation (VRI).
- Stay prepared: Manage an inventory of parts and ensure all equipment is maintained to the highest standards.
- Embrace innovation: Support the adoption of new technologies and water-saving practices to enhance efficiency and sustainability.
- At least 3 years' experience in irrigation, with a strong focus on maintaining and repairing centre pivots.
- Technical expertise with irrigation systems, including pumps, valves, and electrical components.
- Proven problem-solving skills and the ability to think on your feet to tackle challenges.
- A commitment to health and safety, and adaptability to work in all weather conditions.
- Alignment with Ngāi Tahu values, including Kaitiakitanga (stewardship) and Rangatiratanga (leadership).
- A tertiary-level qualification in an agribusiness discipline.
- Completion of an apprenticeship with a National Certificate in Electrical Engineering - Electrician for Registration (Level 4) or equivalent.
