The Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu nomination and appointment process is being undertaken to appoint a Ngāi Tahu representative to the New Zealand Conservation Authority (NZCA).
Functions of the New Zealand Conservation Authority
The NZCA is a national conservation policy advisory and development body, aligned with the Crown, which acts as an informed national voice representing public opinion with regards to the statutory responsibilities of the Minister and Department of Conservation.
Purpose of the role
The purpose of this role is to represent the Ngāi Tahu perspective to the NZCA ensuring that any issues of tribal significance are reported to Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu while also ensuring that tribal matters of significance are represented to the Authority.
Required skills, experience and qualifications

An excellent understanding of Treaty issues as they relate to conservation.
An ability to advocate Treaty rights in a suitable manner noting that other members of the NZCA are not necessarily sympathetic to this point of view.
An interest and enthusiasm in conservation as extensive reading of papers is required for meetings.
Experience on a Conservation Board.

Meeting details
Average meetings - 4 x 1.5 day meetings and 2 x 2-day meetings (includes a one-day field trip) with a remuneration of $750 per meeting.
