The role
We are looking for an experienced Ocean Freight Manager to join our team in Auckland, NZ. Reporting to the Product Manager, you will manage the Ocean Operations Team leading by example ensuring timely and accurate processing of our customers Import & Export Ocean shipments to meet both business and client specific KPIs whilst complying with the legal requirements and company policies including Tolls Health & Safety and HR Policies and Standards of Behaviour.
As the Ocean Freight Manager, you will:
  • Customer and Shipment Coordination: Liaise with customers, shipping companies, and co-loaders to arrange shipments and meet customer needs, ensuring high levels of customer service and timely follow-up on outstanding issues.
  • Documentation and Communication: Prepare and manage bookings and documentation accurately and promptly, maintaining effective communication with all relevant stakeholders.
  • Financial Processing and Monitoring: Process work-in-progress (WIP), invoicing, costs, and accruals correctly and timely, while monitoring job profit through ongoing reports.
  • Management and Improvement: Identify and coordinate improvements, communication, and training within the department, aligning operations with business and management direction.
  • Team Support and Development: Provide proactive support to the team, encouraging personal development and growth, and ensuring safety is a top priority.
  • Training and Oversight: Oversee and provide training to the local team and COE Ocean team, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities and achieving key performance indicators (KPIs).
About you
To be successful in this role, you will need:
  • Experience in ocean freight products including carriers and co-loaders.
  • Knowledge of Global Forwarding operations (i.e.carriers, equipment types/sizes, and clients & services).
  • Local & International logistics market knowledge.
  • Strong computer skills, including strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and CW1.
  • Experience dealing with customers and internal stakeholders, with a strong customer focus and service ethic.
  • Results-orientated, Resilient and a ‘can do’ attitude.
