Teracloud is a global software development company with a diverse set of product lines, ranging from industrial power and climate control systems to real-time business intelligence data analysis solutions and entire operating system platforms, including VSI Open VMS and IBM VSE. Teracloud New Zealand is the newest branch of our organization counting over 300 employees across eight countries and growing fast.
We are setting up a professional services team in Christchurch to work with new and existing customers to help them to modernise their business-critical legacy Open VMS application environments and to migrate those applications from legacy physical hardware platforms to virtualized environments and cloud.
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Professional Services Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role is ideal for someone with 6 plus years of experience with an interest in working with a combination of old and new technologies.
Responsibilities
You will play a pivotal role in migrating, refactoring, and modernising legacy business-critical customer applications and infrastructure from legacy physical hardware to virtualised platforms and cloud. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess, plan, design, and execute the migration process, ensuring seamless transitions while optimising performance, scalability, and reliability.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Work with customer account teams to identify requirements to move applications from legacy physical hardware to virtualised environments and cloud
- Assist with preparation and review of statements of work
- Perform engineering tasks to port and modernise customer application code and data
- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand application requirements, dependencies, and technical constraints
- Assist with the development of migration strategies, timelines, and risk mitigation plans based on project requirements
- Contributes to successful delivery of projects for major global customers
Requirements
- At least 6 years of experience in software development
- Strong C/C++ programming skills
- Familiarity with the Open VMS operating system (or a strong willingness to learn)
- Experience with one or more relational databases and SQL programming
- Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills
- You should also hold a bachelor’s degree (or higher) in computer science or a related field

Bonus if you have:
- Experience with Jira, SCM tools (Bit Bucket or Github), and Confluence
- Knowledge of programming languages such as Java, Fortran, and COBOL would be a plus
- Experience with reverse engineering and complex software systems development
- Data migration experience
