Te āheinga The opportunity

As a Projects Accountant, you will be an integral part of the Corporate Innovation team, providing proactive financial and commercial advice to the Council’s Project Management Office (PMO). Your expertise will support the planning and successful delivery of both capital and operational projects. This role requires close collaboration with both the Finance team and the Project team to ensure projects are financially sound and aligned with Council’s strategic goals.

Tino takohanga Key responsibilities

Support Project Management Office by providing proactive financial and commercial advice working as a key partner to Project Managers and the Project team.
Assess financial structuring of projects, budget management, cost control and ensure accurate project reporting and forecasting.
Monitor Significant Activity budgets, identify efficiencies and deliver reliable financial and performance reporting.
Conduct financial analysis to assess the value of Capital investments.
Work with stakeholders to continually improve asset management processes, including the capitalisation of infrastructural assets.
Play a key role in the development of Long-Term Plans (LTP’s), Annual plans, and financial forecasts.
Support the development and maintenance of Councils financial systems.
Assist in the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reports and annual statutory accounts, completion of reconciliations.
Assist with development of the Councils accounting policies, practices, systems and documentation.
Actively ensure that legislative requirements and Council policies and procedures are fulfilled, particularly in relation to all key relevant legislation.

Ngā tino pūkenga me ngā wheako Essential skills and experience

7+ years of management accounting experience, ideally within infrastructure or capital expenditure projects of a commercial or government organisation.
A professional accounting certification, or tertiary qualification with a strong understanding of NZ IFRS and PBE IPSAS relating to infrastructure and capex accounting principles.
Excellent problem solving, analytical skills, and critical thinking abilities. Confidence maintaining multiple systems.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the capacity to convey financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
A collaborative approach and the ability to engage with diverse teams and stakeholders.
Familiarity with Technology One Finance System (Ci or Ci Anywhere) is an advantage.
