About the role:
Are you a Registrar looking for a great balance of interesting work and excellent lifestyle? Then look no further than Hawke's Bay, New Zealand, a place where we value He kauanuanu - Respect; Ākina - Improvement;
Rāranga te tira - Teamwork and Tauwhiro - Care.
This is an exciting opportunity to apply for the position of Psychiatric Registrar for next year commencing in February and/or August 2025. The Mental Health Service offer supportive working conditions and are committed to excellent teaching.
About us:
Hawke's Bay Hospital is a 364 bed hospital providing acute and elective care for the Hawke's Bay region. In addition to psychiatry, we have a busy Emergency Department, most major medical and surgical subspecialties on site (except cardiothoracic and neurosurgery), as well as paediatrics and O&G. We are well supported by a strong regional ICU team. We have extensive Primary and Community health services and an increasingly integrated approach to health and health care.
About our team:
The Mental Health and Addictions Service comprises: a 23 bed inpatient unit; an Emergency Mental Health Service, Home Based Treatment Team, community teams for Napier and Hastings, specialist Child and Adolescent, Older Persons, Consultation-Liaison, Early Intervention and Maternal Mental Health teams. Most of these teams include opportunities for registrars.
Our medical team has positions for 7 Registrars, 2 House Officers and 14 Senior Medical Officers who are deployed across the service. Working under the direction and supervision of a Senior Medical Officer, you will enjoy a wide variety of inpatient cases and will be required to undertake assessments, make diagnoses and develop treatment and management plans in consultation with the patient and their family or whanau.
Registrars usually start by working in the inpatient unit, but other rotations could be considered, depending on the applicant's experience in psychiatry. It will be essential to provide evidence of your clinical experience and knowledge in mental health and addiction services at registrar level or equivalent.
We have training and non-training roles available:
- Training role - expected that the successful candidate will be interviewed and approved by the Lower North Island Director of Training and RANZCP to train in psychiatry (whether that be advanced or basic) based in Wellington.
- Non-training role – happy to commence in an unaccredited position, but could move to an accredited position if you join the training programme.
Our ideal candidate will have:
- Suitable for Resident Medical Officers who will be PGY3 or above.
- Applicants must be registered, or eligible for registration, with the Medical Council of New Zealand
- Qualification and experience step alignment with the NZRDA or STONZ SECA
- Employer matched Superannuation contributions of up to 6% of annual earnings
- Reimbursement of:
-
- Annual Practicing Certificate costs
- Indemnity Insurance costs
- Free meals when on duty*
- Discounted gym membership and health insurance
-
Access to range of retail discounts
- Conditions apply and are subject to change
