Job description
An established yet boutique multi-disciplinary consultancy in Auckland is excited to be recruiting for a Senior Civil Engineer to join their Auckland team.

Over the last wee while, The Director of Civil Engineering has made a conscious effort to focus on Business Development and it's really paying dividends. The BD efforts, combined with the niche, they’ve carved out for themselves and their unique service offering means their pipeline of work is showing no signs of slowing down.

For the last 50 years these experts have been providing services in the land surveying, civil engineering, structural engineering, and planning sectors.

Reporting to the Director of Civil Engineering you’ll be working on a real variety of projects across the public and private sector that make a valued difference to the everyday lives of Aucklanders. The scope of projects the successful candidate will be working on is arguably the broadest in the market and spans everything from brownfield and greenfield land development for an interesting mix of public and private sector developers through to community spaces/facilities and capital works projects for Auckland Council.

The tenured nature of their team and their diverse service offering means that most aspects of a land/property development project can be done in house. However, over the last 50 years they’ve built strong relationships with other professionals in the sector who they can lean on accordingly.

With an unwavering “client focus” this consultancy prides itself on its communication and to meeting the expectations set at the initial feasibility and scoping phase right through to delivery.

The successful candidate will be able to take on entire projects from start to finish and will ideally be Chartered or have a genuine desire to become chartered in the near future. You will play an integral part in leading the business forward assuming responsibility for new subdivisions and community projects, winning business and developing relationships, invoicing and construction monitoring and the mentoring of more junior staff.

On offer is a competitive salary, interesting work, lots of work and the opportunity to grow with and to add value to a small, nimble business that is going from strength to strength. Renowned for taking the professional development of its staff seriously and for its social and family like culture. You’ll receive 5 days of paid training a year and professional memberships and accreditation paid for.

Responsibilities:

This role will see you working on broad and varied elements of land development, including but not limited to site monitoring, contract administration, complex civil design, resource consent preparation, contract preparation and tendering.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:
  • The design of earthworks, roading, drainage, stormwater treatment and detention
  • Hydrology, stream works & mitigation.
  • Resource consenting requirements
  • Managing varied and complex land development projects
  • Mentoring of other project staff
  • Upholding quality and looking to improve team outputs regarding design and management of land development projects.
  • Management of Construction Supervision to the highest level and maintaining strong relationships with contractors and the public
  • Overseeing Contract Management
  • Maintaining up to date industry knowledge in areas of construction practice, modelling, software, and innovation.
Requirements:
  • A Bachelor of Engineering university degree, a NZCE or a BEng Tech.
  • CPeng or a genuine desire to become Chartered in the near future.
  • A Washington accord qualification or an NZQA level 7 or above engineering qualification with the willingness to undergo necessary knowledge assessments.
  • Experience in using Auto CAD and 12D software.
  • 6 years + of local New Zealand experience required.
  • The gravitas and relationship building skills to manage relations with clients and contractors to achieve wins and positive outcomes consistently.
This opportunity is not one to be missed and is sure to be snapped up soon so apply now. For questions, get in touch with our Engineering Recruitment Consultant, Hugh Miller, today on 027 305 0677 for a confidential chat.
