Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role
Join the Natural Resources team who are responsible for policy advice on natural resource use, and related Resource Management Act (RMA) system settings. The team's focus will be on advice relating to the phase 2 Resource Management reforms.
This includes:
- Allocation of rights to use natural resources, and policies impacting on it.
- Natural resource consenting processes and duration.
- The freshwater planning process.
- Interactions between these matters and other national direction, core settings in the RMA, and Māori rights and interests in natural resources.
- Responsibility for the National Environmental Standards for Sources of Human Drinking Water.
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
In your role as Senior Policy Advisor you will support the team's work programmes and the key deliverable. To be successful in role, you will need to display the below skillset.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, and experience in policy development. Solid understanding of machinery of government
- Skilled in mentoring and coaching junior team members and leading complex projects. Ideally has knowledge/expertise in a relevant discipline eg, science, economics, planning.
- Ability to liaise across work programmes and agencies to ensure appropriate advice and information is provided to governance groups.
- Ability to clearly express complex programme processes and policy issues to support governance decisions.
- Capable of working autonomously while also collaborating effectively.
- Good understanding of Resource Management Act policy and/or practice.
- Desirable, but not essential, to have interest in the use, allocation and management of natural resources.

Whānuitanga Utu ā-Tau | Salary range
Salary range for this role is from $108,976 up to $132,277 p/a. Appointment within this range will be based on skills and experience.
